Fast forward to the years 2020 - 2025, then consider what new technological advances will be needed to empower the auto industry to meet the recently proposed EPA and NHTSA mandates, perhaps as much as 62 m.p.g. for new vehicles.

The Center for Automotive Research, also known as CAR, believes a series of dramatic changes in the types of vehicles will have to be offered in the market. Mandates may also produce dramatic changes in vehicles, the industry and the market.

According to the CAR website, CARgroup.org , this seminar, part of the CAR Breakfast Brief Series, will discuss these developments in terms of what they mean for the U.S. automotive market and industry in the years ahead.

Moreover, this seminar will feature the results of a new CAR study that estimates the costs of such mandated change in new vehicles and the effect of such costs on vehicle sales and production and employment in the U.S. motor vehicle industry through 2025.

CAR’s study also comments on the likely future efficiency of the CAFÉ regulatory process in terms of actually reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Joining CAR as a special guest will be the J.D. Power International study team, including Jeffrey Schuster, executive director of Automotive Forecasting. The firm recently released the J.D. Power study, Drive Green 2020, More Hope than Reality.

This survey-based study investigated the likely consumer acceptance and market viability of electrified vehicles in the United States and other international markets.

Other panelists are expected to participate as well in a reality-based discussion of the effects of technological and market changes in the automotive market of the next 15 years.
