Thanks to the internet, designers, engineers and technicians will be able to view a web-based seminar called a webiner for the SAE J1772TM-Electric Vehicle and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Conductive Charge Coupler.

Entitled “Plug-In Vehicle Conductive Charging, SAE J1772 Explained Webinar” the on-line seminar will commence August 9 & 11, 2011 for two, 2-hour sessions via telephone/internet between the hours of 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ET.

For the record, registrations will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. ET, August 8, but early registration is encouraged to allow for pre-course set-up and instructions.

Course Overview

SAE J1772TM-Electric Vehicle and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Conductive Charge Coupler is the first standard in the world reached by industry consensus that provides critical guidelines for safety, charging control and connectors used to charge plug in vehicles. Paving the way for an EV future, the standard accommodates the latest generation of vehicles that need to be plugged in for charging their high-energy batteries.

This course will uncover the details behind the SAE J1772TM conductive charging interface. It will discuss overall plug-in vehicle charge strategy, electrical safety strategy, electrical and physical interface requirements and control strategy. Included in the course is background related to the National Electrical Code, third party listing requirements and necessary EMC and regulatory compliance.

Upon completion of the webinar, the student will have enhanced knowledge of the properties of the Control Pilot and Proximity circuits and the necessary vehicle and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) control responses necessary for SAE J1772TM compliance.

Learning Objectives

By connecting with this webinar, attendees will be able to do the following:

1) Cite terminology used for plug-in vehicle charging
2) Comprehend and apply codes, standards and regulations for plug-in vehicle charging
3) Become proficient at the purpose and characteristics of the Control Pilot and Proximity control interfaces
4) Implement the required control state transitions and responses for charging
5) Comprehend the physical, mechanical, electrical, environmental and EMC requirements for EVSEs, charge connectors and vehicle inlets
6) Be able to design vehicle or EVSE electrical interfaces and controls in accordance to the requirements of SAE J1772TM

Familiarity with SAE J1772TM is strongly recommended for successful completion of this webinar. So, to set the stage, you may obtain a copy of the standard via the following link:
