Thinking…nay…dreaming of owning a luxury racing replica? Here’s a recent posting about a 1998 Superformance Shelby Cobra that while expensive is not nearly as unobtainable as the real thing is today. Here’s a look at one recently reviewed by a mechanic to show what you can expect to find in one.
Racing Replicas
When it comes to cars, one of the misfortunes of life for many of us is the born-too-late-to-have-been-there regrets that come with an intense desire to own a specific car or two or three, etc., that back in the day were possible to still find and possess without having to be a kid-at-heart millionaire.
The fervor one can feel is nearly religious enough to call original models of such cars the Holy Grails of automotive ownership. So blinding is this viewpoint that today it is hard to imagine ANY modern car coming even close to becoming as deeply desired of a car collectible equivalent. Hence, the born-too-late-to-have-been-there regret.
Today, however, we can still fulfill such dreams with racing replicas that while not exact reproductions are close enough to the real thing to feel like the real thing.
One example is the iconic Ford GT40 of the 1960’s recreated by Superperformance that claims their reproductions to be “…more than two-thirds of the components found on the new GT40s can be exchanged with the originals.”
And it’s not because an exact reproduction is not possible, but that safety is an issue, and the replicas are built with improvements to help prevent what could too easily become a catastrophic accident in the hands of a lesser driver than those who first brought the GT to racing fame.

A Show and Tell Review
To have an idea what you can expect if you are fortunate to be able to buy one of these racing replicas today, here is a show and tell review of a 1998 Superformance Shelby Cobra in the Car Wizard’s garage that offers some not-so-obvious bits of information that make this a fun video to watch and dare I say…dream about tonight.
That said, here is the video posted below and well worth the nearly 17 minutes of time spent about a carburetor’d car that sounds and feels like a car should without the digital silicon so popular in today’s vehicles.
Super small with a huge engine! Why is this '98 Superformance Shelby Cobra in the CAR WIZARD's shop?
