The Used Car Mileage Cut-Off Number
One of the criteria used car shoppers have when searching for a used car is the car’s mileage. Which is not a bad start; however, it is only one criterion---and not necessarily the most important one.
This point was recently made in a Car Wizard YouTube video in which the Car Wizard points out that an older model used Rolls Royce with 155,000 miles on it can actually be a better used car buy than many newer models with much lower miles.

An Analysis of the Video
The take home message of the video is that it’s not the miles that matter so much; but rather, the quality of the build of the car and how well it was maintained. In other words, that a high-mileage luxury car is worth investigating during your used car search---when you find the right make and the right owner/seller.
Granted, many of us are not going to go for a Rolls; however, there are quite a few well-made high-end quality cars over the past 20 years that fit one of the above criteria. The other criterion is a question of its maintenance history and how the car was treated (driven) by its owner.
That said, how do you go about finding a gem like the demonstrated Rolls Royce? You have to find an owner/seller who is an enthusiast. If you want to find a used vehicle that meets the criteria of having been well-maintained and is a more-affordable high mileage older luxury car, y9ou need to inspect its owner while inspecting the car.
These cars are typically not on lots. You will have to rely on word of mouth; Knowing someone who knows someone who knows something. Broaden your used car search by looking for auto enthusiasts who are much more likely to have taken great care of their car. Look at car special interest groups online; talk to salesguys and mechanics of the higher-end luxury models; and, go to specialty shops that cater to auto enthusiasts.
While the Car Wizard episode looks like a fantasy piece---those cars are out there. You just have to know where to look when the timing is right.
