For Volvo fans that don’t require 3-row seating in a premium SUV format, Volvo engineering takes the most popular premium 2-row SUV in Europe, to the pinnacle of automated hands-free accident avoidance and hybrid sports performance.
XC60 is the most advanced 2-row SUV in the segment
Following the award winning 90 series architecture, the next generation XC60 brings a slightly smaller, 2-row premium SUV to one of the hottest segments in automotive sales today. The look is Volvo understated elegance, with just enough bling and premium panache to catch the sensus. I first experienced the revival of Volvo Car in Malaga Spain.
Yet the rest of the XC60 story is just as compelling as the finely sculpted body and wheel line. A first in its segment, XC60 equipped with “steer assist,” when detecting a pending collision, will steer you and Volvo XC60 out of harm’s way. I take 2017 XC90 T6 to the streets of Los Angeles.
Volvo tells us that the reinvented XC60 may be the safest vehicle ever built. Looking to the expanded active safety suite, it may very well be! When optioned with the T-8 gasoline/electric hybrid option, producing a combined 400 horsepower, and reported sprint speeds of 5.3 seconds 0 to 100 KMH, The XC90 is also one, if not, the quickest SUVs to come out of Sweden.
A word from Volvo
The new XC60, one of the safest cars ever made, is fully-loaded with new technology. Steer Assist has been added to the ground-breaking City Safety system. A new safety system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation uses steer assist to help mitigate head-on collisions, while Volvo’s Blind Spot Indication System (BLIS) now uses Steer Assist functionality to reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions.
“We have focused on building a car that can deliver pleasure to all of your senses – from a commanding view of the road ahead in a beautifully appointed and calm cabin, to a safe, inspired and confident ride,” said Henrik Green, Senior Vice President Product & Quality at Volvo Car Group. “We’ve paid particular attention to making life easier for our customers by providing them with the creature comforts and services that take the hassle out of everyday life.”
The 2017 Geneva Motor Show continues a proud heritage of presenting the finest segment breaching designs to a world market of informed, and sophisticated autophiles. Volvo is there presenting a car and light truck lineup that sits at the cutting edge of the autonomous car movement. Volvo Car is on a mission to eliminate all car-accident-related death and major injury by the end of this decade, a heady goal, yet doable.
Although no U.S. market availability date was offered by the maker in Geneva, production on the reinvented 2018 Volvo XC60 begins this Spring in Sweden. As to MSRP, we’ll keep you posted on Volvo updates.
