North American Honda enthusiasts are calling for the return of a Civic based Type ‘R’ performance hatchback, ain’t going to happen! We believe that a modified Honda Fit will fill the gap.
The Las Vegas SEMA Show is ground zero for auto aftermarket custom car builders and suppliers. For years I've watched in wonder as over the top customized one-off creations lead to dealership available accessories and aftermarket performance parts. If you sport something cool on your car it was most likely featured at SEMA first.
Last year Honda Civic Si an 800 hp Odyssey van and a modified Acura or two graced SEMA’s floor while placing images of can-do out of the box body-works, performance and wheel modifications in your imagination. There’s nothing else like Las Vegas SEMA and Honda Performance Development is attending SEMA in force.
This year Honda sponsors and presents a public voted 6 team participant 2015 Honda Fit build; voting through Honda’s Tumbler page; you've already picked the winner. The world will know who wins Tuesday, November 4.
You can view the builders here. While a handful of the entrants are a bit over the top by dealership accessory standards, a couple hit the floor in viable garage built performance hatch form.
With Honda Fit sales setting new highs for October, we believe that Fit will eventually replace Civic as Honda’s portal car. Torque News has reported on HPD’s Fit ‘B’ specified racer and believe that with some refinement, a Fit platformed super hatch will become a reality in the near term.
