As with all first production runs, some buyers will report a quality glitch or two. How’s your 2016 Civic production quality?
Granted, as new car owner, engineers can often be the most critical. There job title and related project load comes with a required, often analytical eye for detail and subsequent quality. Car manufacturing is generally a balance of both, Honda does quality assurance better than most.
Such is the case this week as I read through our Monday morning e-mails. Looking to Torque News friends CivicX.com, we discovered a CET (certified Engineer Technology) from Toronto, Ontario, Canada that is less than smitten with his or hers( they're not specific) 2016 Honda Civic Touring. In fact, this contributor refers to their specific Civic as a “lemon.”
Here’s what “mycivicisalemon” tells us
“Is anyone else experiencing 18 deficiencies with there car?” Talk about buyer’s remorse, this guy’s not a happy camper. Here’s the short list:
‘ mycivicisalemon asks? Has anyone experienced this much bad luck with their purchase?
1.) Left headlight leaks (moisture build up)
2.) Right headlight leaks
3.) HVAC makes a whistling noise in the "Feet Mode"
4.) Left center vent (up/down motion) won't stay down when it heats up (I know it defies gravity but somehow Honda managed to do it)
5.) Windshield and/or wipers leave streaks all over the glass. I have to put "Rain Away" just to see safely every 2 weeks or else in stock mode it is a safety issue.
6.) Rain sensing wipers go ape-shit when activated. Have to use standard "on" just to see properly out of my defective windshield.
7.) Wireless charger works when it feels like it which is almost never. Had it replaced with a new one and guess what? Yep...Honda gave me another clone of the one that was replaced. Honda won't admit that there could be a bad batch that slipped through QC's fingers.
8.) Rear leather seating looks way too loose (some bubbles in some seams) Compared mine with other cars and the other cars looks fine. Bad luck I guess but I am not finished with my luck yet.
9.) Rear camera resolution is of B&W quality....around 280p. It is so useless that I went back to using my mirrors. I traded in a '15 Civic EX and the rear camera was WAY BETTER than this POS camera that Honda saved $5 downgrading. You (new owners) have no idea what a POS camera you have if you step in last years model. Shame on you Tight Ass Honda for saving $5 at your reputations cost.
10.) Rear plastic trunk trim (one that houses the license plate LED) doesn't line up rear panels. Actually most doors don't line up and/or has inconsistent gaps that range from 2mm to almost 8mm!
11.) Driver front (window) door rattles when closing. Honda Service replaced the window track and now the window rattles when closing AND now it stutters when the window goes up. Thanks Honda for making my day a brighter one (more leverage in court)
.
12.) Driver rear door window rattles when closing. Honda service replaced the outside glass trim to no success. Still there for me to show the judge if he want to hear it for himself.
13.) Passenger front door window rattles when closing. Honda couldn't even fix the driver side doors so they didn't even bother even trying with and other doors.
14. Passenger rear door window rattles when closing. No comment (or see #13 above).
15.) Passenger side door rubber molding deformed. It's still 2 months on back order. I guess they need all the rubber moldings that they can get so they can put it in their new cars on the assembly line. Come on Honda...you can't even spare not even 1 for someone who bought one of your lemons?
16.) Rear woofer and/or panel "farts" half volume. Honda blames my music for having too much rhythm (bass). Well excuuuuuuse me!
17.) Infotainment system sometime flashes on and off. Had a software update done on it and fixed the flashing issue. Of course when they fix one thing they create another (collateral damage). Now my Bluetooth doesn't connect all the time (popular deficiency).
18.) The transmission (this one is my favorite) jerks back and forth on the highway rocking me to sleep. Thank God the sudden deceleration from the Collision Mitigation System wakes me up.
“Mycivicisalemon" asks: Now is this bad luck or is this a lemon?
Here’s my response: Although I don’t own one, I’ve spent several hours in the seat behind the wheel of the 2016 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe in all trim levels, and driving conditions -- so far, so good! You may read my latest drive review here. With that said, most owners reporting back to the forum have no to very few complaints, deficiencies, regrets, or buyer’s remorse when it comes to Honda’s best selling Civic in decades.
I will hand this guy or gal some credit fro bringing up a viable complaint or two. 2016 Honda Civic Sedan should be as presented by the manufacture, " the best sedan offering in the sub-premium compact sedan segment."
Sales are so good for Civic that Honda will record yet another sales record year for 2016 in North America.
While the build quality is visually much better than average, Torque News doesn’t own a 2016 Honda Civic, and look to you, our readers, for a bit of feedback here. What we do know based on several decades of car purchasing and sales experience, it generally takes a few months for a manufacturer to perfect a new generation offering. Honda, while better than most, is not an exception. In other words, ‘when they build the perfect car…”
How’s your 10th generation 2016 Honda Civic Sedan or Coupe? We want to know and welcome your (civil) thought provoking comment here.

Chrome bubble on one door handle...thats it.
Did my first repair when car was 10 years old, skipped the routine maint, and put less than 1k into the car in repairs in 167 years. Total repairs are a hose, and brake and fuel lines rusted after 16 years in Cape Cod driving.
Car has no rust on the body still and never an engine repair of any kind.

Welcome David. Yes, that's the kind of reliability most Honda owners report.
seems you only wanna hear
seems you only wanna hear gushy good things and not REALITY such as the very real problems that DO exist with these cars. Face reality, honda of (today) is NOWHERE near the quality they used to be. I'm a realist and don't wear rose colored glasses just to make things sound all rainbow and unicorn gummy bear fiction. Wake up, smell the stench that these new hondas REALLY are!!
dude, maybe you are one of
dude, maybe you are one of those people who can't be reasoned with today, but I'll still clarify a few things for you. First off, you sound like a high school kid. Second, you are saying that all these cars are having problems, when you've only owned one. Third, I never said anything about all of these cars, as a whole - any comment I made on here was about my car, and my car only. So, your "you're wrong..." comment was very dense, because I know my car better than you. Lastly, people always bash on Honda's as much as I hear other cars get bashed on. People are always going to find something wrong to point out in something else. You just seem to be one of those people that has to always be right. Also, comparing Honda to luxury brand cars isn't right since Honda isn't a luxury brand, but I won't stop you from doing that. Although, you'll look rather ignorant in the car world.
Actually YOU sound rather
Actually YOU sound rather ignorant. You are ignorant of the fact that I am NOT a high school student. You using the "dude" thing sounds more juvenile than anybody ironically enough. YOU are ignorant to the fact that I am actually 51 years old, and have owned over 23 new vehicles in my life. Three of them being Hondas. I owned a brand new CRX, I owned a brand new Honda civic hybrid. So I have owned (3) brand new Civics and that in itself qualifies ME to be a rather credited and experienced person to comment on which Civics WERE good quality, and which ones were NOT. So "dude" you might want to go back and rethink your rather hastily put together comments which really show quite a lack of insight and intelligence.
Dear Justin and Brian. Let's
Dear Justin and Brian. Let's keep it civil. Thank you. On a personal note: While I appreciate the Honda brand, there may be a lemon or two out there. As a numbers guy, Honda retains one of the highest quality, consumer satisfaction ratings in the car industry. However, i'll give it a model year before voicing my steadfast opinion on the 10th generation Civic. I've driven the entire lineup from Fit to Ridgeline, the build quality generally exceeds the price point. Cheers, and best of luck to both of you.
I forgot, I also owned the
I forgot, I also owned the Fit. I guess I can put my Honda ownership at (4) brand new cars. 3 civics, 1 Fit. Loved the Fit but it was rear-ended/and totalled while parked.
Not here to put anyone down
Not here to put anyone down but if you have a bad experience with an auto why keep buying, try someone else or maybe you have bad luck don't waste money on the lottery. I've bought 3 Honda's and all you have to do is maintenance and put gas in them gotta love it

I bought a 2016 Civic last
I bought a 2016 Civic last month. It's a nice car and the build quality is ok so far. I have had numerous issues with the audio system, however. Sometimes the sound goes completely out: no radio, satellite radio, bluetooth streaming, nada. I had to reboot once, which required me to re-program my favorite radio stations. I've been back to the dealer once for a recall with the audio system at which time they downloaded an update to my car. It's crazy; they downloaded something?! Is it a car or a computer? The car is great and my iPhone is great. But these two technologies don't play nicely together. Just like every other new tech: it's supposed to make life easier, but ends up making things way more complicated. I hope someday everything will simply work the way it's supposed to.
Welcome Jeremy. Is it the
Welcome Jeremy. Is it the Apple i-Play that is glitchy? Please expand. Thank you.
@Parks, I've had issues with
@Parks, I've had issues with Car Play and the phone in general interfering with the audio system. I think it has to do with the bluetooth connection, but I can't say for sure. Sometimes after ending a phone call over bluetooth, the problem occurs where there is no sound at all from the radio. Once, I plugged the phone in to use apple car play, but the car's tablet screen went completely blank even though the music was streaming. Car Play has worked fine on other occasions, so there is no rhyme or reason to it. I can't figure it out. On one hilarious occasion, while scrolling through my iPhone contacts using the steering wheel controls, the car started to recite the ABCs and would not stop, even after turning the car off and coming back to it more than an hour later. Upon start-up, the ABCs continued. That resulted in another trip to the dealer where they had to unplug the battery to fix the problem. Like I said, these technologies don't match up. Bluetooth, different operating systems, whatever. They aren't always compatible.
Welcome Jeremy. So basically
Welcome Jeremy. So basically disconnecting the car battery reboots the car's infotainment system. We'll keep you posted as to any related updates from Honda. Take care.
I completely agree with you.
I completely agree with you. In addition to alot of problems with my 16 civic touring coupe, my pet peave is that my ipod which has about 12,000 songs on it always starts over to track number 1 every time I turn the car off/on. I even tried another brand new ipod classic same thing, Honda, and the dealer have NO explanation and just scratch their heads. I wouldn't buy another honda.
I own a 2016 Aegean Blue
I own a 2016 Aegean Blue Civic that i picked up about 2 weeks ago. So far, the car has been wonderful. Drives and handles well and the interior feels premium. I have however encountered a glitch with the infotainment system where the headunit beeps repetitively in a series of three beeps. This happens when I disconnect my phone from bluetooth. There is nothing I can do to stop the beeping. Everything else about the Civic has been perfect.
Welcome Andy. Does the
Welcome Andy. Does the beeping stop after turning off the ignition and re starting the car? Please expand your comment. Thank you.
I've had my 16 Civic Touring
I've had my 16 Civic Touring since January. I've already put on 5,000 miles. The only issue I had was with the infotainment system. They provided a software update and I have not had any problems since. This car has a very premium feel to it and it could actually pass for an Acura.
I love it when the media
I love it when the media darlings (Subaru and Honda) are exposed as being imperfect. Don't misunderstand, I am not gloating here. Cars are designed and built by humans and machines....both of which are not perfect. And electronics...whew....they have a mind of their own! I sincerely hope that the owners of imperfect cars get them repaired to their satisfaction. As the owner of an '09 Toyota Corolla, I am all too familiar with recalls and engine rattle on start-up. It is disconcerting when one puts his/her money on a nameplate that has a reputation for quality.......and the be disappointed by the lack thereof.
I've owned my 2016 civic lx
I've owned my 2016 civic lx for a couple of months now and have noticed a few things. Every once in a a while, when I'm on a clean stretch of road, if I hit the gas a little hard it feels like I hit something on the front passenger's side. I'm starting to wonder if the rod is cracked. I haven't driven it hard and have 1000 miles on it, so that would be a big concern if that's the case. Otherwise things are okay, but I do notice the passenger side window takes forever to go up. I need to do the break in period oil change soon so I'll definitely have the service center look at those as well. Regardless, theven issues should be foready chevy and Ford owners.
I too hear a noise when I
I too hear a noise when I accelerate on the open road or sometimes when I press the gas after making a stop. sounds like something is hitting something.
Welcome Ken. Could be an
Welcome Ken. Could be an active motor mount, transmission linkage, a sticky brake system component. I'd take it in to your local Honda dealer and have it check out. Please keep me posted on what they discover. Best of luck!
I`ve bought my 2016 civic
I`ve bought my 2016 civic last month and since first day there are rattles coming from everywhere inside the car. One from inside the dash, one from driver door and one from passenger door, one from underneath the steering wheel, sometimes one big metal hits metal sound from back of the car, one from passenger seatbelt area. I took the car to the service, however that day my civic decided to be so quiet and they couldnt find what the problem was. I am really tired of those rattles and decided to sell my car, which is not even a thousand km. Looks like I bought the most defective car came from Honda factory.
Good day Tayfun. That's most
Good day Tayfun. That's most unfortunate. You are the first to write of these excessive rattles. Good luck.
No he is NOT the first to
No he is NOT the first to comment on 'rattles' !! Lmao, all kinds of people have been complaining about the crap quality of this interior cabin which is RIDDLED with rattles and vibrations. I've owned a LOT of new cars in my time, and I've never seen such crap for quality until gettin this civic. Going with a BMW or Mercedes. THEY know how to build a great machine still.
