It’s that Honda engineering magic that keeps driving the lineup to new sales records. How does Honda up-size Civic while reducing weight?
The first time Torque News viewed the 2016 Civic Coupe concept we were hooked. There was something about the visual dynamics of the car that Honda claimed closely shadowed the production version.
Fat, wide, low and sinister, the seemingly day-glow green Civic concept stirred the imagination as to things to come. Civic fans not-so quietly hoped that Honda would follow suite with an all new and measurably dynamic 10th Generation Civic. Honda delivered!
Up-sized, up-turned and measurably improved, 2016 Civic excites
O.K., yeah we know, it’s a sedan, and from our reader’s comments An Si or Type-R release is what the Honda fans are looking forward to. None the less, we’ve driven 2016 Honda Civic through the canyons of Malibu, California and believe it to be the most dynamic Civic to come out of Canada since the original Civic sub compact's reveal to the world in 1978.
Although dimensionally larger than the outgoing 9th generation Civic Sedan, the mostly manufactured in Canada Super-Civic comes to market with a much improved suspension, longer wheelbase, wider track and thanks to an all new World-Compact-Car-Platform, Civic Type-R road handling and turbocharged engine performance tendencies.
Honda engineering tops the segment
Through the use of light high tensile-strength metals, an aluminum hood in Touring models, reduced dead weight suspension, swingarm and brake components, although nearly 3 inches longer and 1.5 inches wider than the exiting 9th generation sedan, 2016 Civic comes to market 60 lbs lighter with a 10 to 20% increase in horsepower, usable torque and greater fuel economy.
