Have you noticed that the fuel gauge on the 2022 Toyota Tundra has sometimes stated that it is full even though you may have half a tank? There is a simple fix that that dealer can do.
As more and more people see that the new 2022 Toyota Tundra is indeed a pretty good truck (if you don’t get a bad one), more and more subtle little problems start to become seen in the mainstream forums. Things like the seat trims cracking or window seals coming loose. However, the majority of Tundra owners say that they have a pretty good truck. Remember, any problem for Toyota is not going to be a small problem. If 1% of trucks are affected by problem A, then that’s a lot of trucks in terms of quantity.
On Facebook’s 2022+ Toyota Tundra Owners group, Benjamin Baatz surfaced one such problem. He said, “Does anyone else’s fuel gauge show full when it’s warm outside? It went from 3/4 to full just sitting in the driveway.” Now don’t think that your truck makes its own fuel. While that would be very convenient, the 2022 Toyota Tundra does not have that capability. Instead, a lot of owners have said it is due to a calibration error which the dealer would have to fix.
Becky Haskell said, “Mine does that if I park on a slope. Tell the dealer it needs to be recalibrated.” This is a very simple fix which you could do now or when you go to get an oil change. Usually this will not affect your average mpg as that calculation is not done by the amount of gas you have in your tank or at least what the computer thinks is the amount you have. However, this could be pretty bad if you always forget how much you put in. if you filled up 2 weeks ago and it still shows that it is full, chances are you are already running low and may need some more gas.
My advice is to either keep an eye on it and remember how much gas you have or just get a quick re-calibration from the dealer. It should be covered by your warranty anyway. Small things like this are usually covered but it would be a good idea to call ahead and make sure that this is something that can be covered. However, just like almost all other Toyota vehicles, if you for some reason moded your Tundra’s fuel tank, then that warranty would be voided because they could just blame it on your mod.
Make sure to only mod things that you know are less likely to fail like wheels and tires or even a few body mods. Check out our older article on Toyota’s bumper to bumper warranty.
All in all, I think that this isn’t something to panic about however it could be catastrophic if you don’t keep an eye on it.

My 2022 Tundra has done this
My 2022 Tundra has done this regularly since I am launching my boat. I had a calibration done last week and yesterday after pulling the boat out I had a full tank again according to the gauge. Unacceptable and impractical to go to the dealer weekly or remember to keep topping up.
Same issue after launching
Same issue after launching the boat. It has 10,900 miles on my 2022
Not exactly correct. There…
Not exactly correct. There is absolutely an issue with the fuel gauge on several 22 and 23s. Calibration isn’t fixing the issue. Most likely a fuel level sensor issue. Mine repeats going to full on its own every single tank.
Same issue here I have had…
Same issue here I have had to shut the truck off in drive then restart in park and the Grafe will reset unacceptable. Another issue I came through a rain storm and my fan motor would only run on low no AC and no Heat. Two hours later driving and the cab at 80 degrees the fan AC and heat started working again . At the dealership now hopefully they will find the issue.
Same exact issue as the guy
Same exact issue as the guy above me and I haven’t gotten a calibration yet. That pisses me off and I wanna ditch the truck
Only 900km on my 2022 tundra
Only 900km on my 2022 tundra and twice fuel gauge stuck on full. Happened both times after pulling boat. Seriously Toyota let’s have a recall and fix this issue…these trucks aren’t cheap.
I have just had the fuel
I have just had the fuel guage issue today will be taking into dealer only 12000 km on it, However my my biggest issue is when I drive on dusty off road adventures the box of the truck fills up with dust, covers all my belongings so bad they are not even useable until I clean them up like lawn chairs ect. this is with a tonnoue cover also. I have tried to make rubber seals on the gaping voids between the the box and tail gate with limited success.I think toyota should manufacture a gasket that will alleviate this problem. not happy with these issues on such an exspensive purchase
Have the same issue here.I
Have the same issue here.I just bought this truck yesterday used with 1760 miles is certified used by Toyota. Can I return the car if I just bought yesterday? I am planning on taking the Tundra to the dealership tomorrow but my concern is that base on everyone experience the issue repeats itself.
The fuel gauge has acted up…
The fuel gauge has acted up twice on my 2023 Tundra in 10 months. Once with boat trailer attached, and after driving 180kms.
My brother has a 2023 as well, and it just happened to his truck after driving 192 since fill up.
I purchased a new 2022 Toyota
I purchased a new 2022 Toyota Tundra on SEP 17 2022. After approximately 1100 miles, my fuel gauge started to reflect incorrect fuel levels. I can fill up with gas, and drive 100 plus miles and park it. In the morning when I start up the vehicle, the fuel gauge reflects a full fuel tank. I reported this to my dealership and they said there was no current recall. As I search the internet, there are quite a few people reporting this issue. What is the fix?
Start your vehicle and then
Start your vehicle and then place it in drive. Shut it off with it in drive and wait a few seconds and then place it in park. You will see the fuel gage adjust to the proper level. Start the truck and verify operation. This fix worked for me as my 2023 Tundra started doing this yesterday after pulling my boat.
This was incredibly helpful,
This was incredibly helpful, thank you. We just bought a 2023 and hauled our horse trailer for the first time yesterday, and were SO confused when we got in the truck today to a “full” tank.
This fix worked and put the reading back to where it was supposed to be.
I am having the same issue.
I am having the same issue. My tundra is T about 12,000 miles started incorrectly reading fuel levels where it would go down to 3/4 of a tank then go back up to full. Dealership said they’re starting to see a lot of these complaints. Toyota has a case number with me. I’ve been promised callbacks. no callbacks. Very suspect.
The "Hold to Rest" feature is
The "Hold to Rest" feature is completely missing from the fuel economy area on my 2022 Tundra TRD PRO, has anyone seen this issue before??
