There's a new twist in the lawsuit of the copycat Evoque.
China's patent re-examination board invalidated Jaguar Land Rover's patent on the Evoque's design back in April. Reuters explained the reason for the invalidation was due to the design being "displayed or published elsewhere before a patent application was filed." A month later, the board invalidated the patent of alleged copycat, the Landwind X7. The board explained the design strongly resembled the Evoque.
Chen Jihong, a Beijing-based intellectual property lawyer tells Reuters both companies can appeal the ruling of the board.
As we reported earlier this month, Jaguar Land Rover has sued Jiangling Motor for copying the design of the Evoque for the Landwind X7. Put the two vehicles and you can see points where the two models are similar.
With their patent being invalidated, does this mean Jaguar Land Rover is giving up? Not a chance according to a Jaguar Land Rover spokesman.
