It seems we now have a timeframe as to when we will find if Skoda comes to the U.S. or not.
Speaking with German business daily Handelsblatt, Skoda CEO Bernhard Maier said a final decision for the brand entering the U.S. will take place sometime next year.
“In the course of the coming year, we want to decide on the question of North America,” said Maier.
“When we talk about our plans until 2025, then you cannot leave out one of the most important car markets in the world. Therefore, we examine under what conditions and with what cars the entrance to the U.S. market would be possible.”
Those plans for 2025 Maier mentions is to have Skoda in 120 markets. At the moment, Skoda sells their vehicles in 102 markets. The Czech brand has plans on entering Iran, South Korea, and Singapore next year. Skoda has been a bright spot for the Volkswagen Group. The brand had its best first half in terms of sales with 569,400 vehicles.
Skoda has been teasing about a possible entry in the U.S. for a few months now. We first learned of plans back in June, along with information that the brand had been trademarking various names. Last month, Maier mentioned that Skoda's upcoming SUV could be the perfect model to launch the brand in the U.S.
For the time being, we have to just wait.
