A new model year could see a manufacturer make either none, some, or massive changes to one of their models. For the 2017 Range Rover Sport, Land Rover took the middle route.
The big news for the 2017 Range Rover Sport deals with the European-spec model. Land Rover is introducing a 2.0L turbodiesel four-cylinder with 240 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. 0-62 takes a hair over 8 seconds. More importantly, the 2.0L achieves 45.6 mpg on the European combined cycle and emits 164 g/km of emissions. The 2017 Range Rover Sport SD4 will have a starting price tag of £59,700 (about $78,449).
Europe will also be getting the supercharged 3.0L V6 that has been sold in the U.S.-spec Sport. The V6 produces 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. You'll need to pony up £64,400 (about $84,625).
What changes will everyone else be seeing?
It begins with Land Rover swapping the 8-inch screen for a new 10.2-inch screen. This larger screen also includes the latest generation of InControl Touch Pro infotainment system which is said to be easier to use. Land Rover has also added a number of safety and assistance systems such as Advanced Tow Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Low Traction Launch.
For the U.S., the 2017 Range Rover Sport will begin at $66,645 (includes a $995 destination charge) with sales beginning later this fall.
