With the next-generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class getting a sedan variant, this leaves the CLA-Class in a precarious position. There will be two sedans of the same size sitting on dealers and one could eat into the other's sales. It seems Mercedes has a solution.
Sources tell Automotive News (Subscription Required) the next-generation CLA will get fastback styling similar to the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept shown earlier this year. Coming in late 2019, the CLA will utilize the next-generation MFA front-wheel drive platform. The CLA will be one of eight models that will be underpinned by MFA. The upcoming A-Class sedan and a new crossover will also use this platform.
Speaking of the A-Class sedan, Automotive News says the production model will look very similar to the concept shown last month. It will be arriving in the U.S. late next year or in early 2019. Those hoping for the hatchback will be sad to hear that it will not be coming here.
