Audi held their annual shareholder meeting at their headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany yesterday where CEO Rupert Stadler announced some big plans for the luxury automaker.
“Starting in 2018, we will launch another electrified car each year,” Stadler announced at the meeting.
"[Not] only in market niches, but also in high-volume segments, in our successful Q family for example."
In a statement, Audi said the first EV will be "a sporty SUV with a range of more than 500 kilometers and will be produced in Brussels." This sounds like the long-rumored Q6 E-tron that will look like the E-tron concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Stadler also announced that the German luxury brand would be launching "more than 20 new or upgraded Audi models" throughout this year. Already, Audi has introduced the A4 Allroad, Q2 crossover, and the sporty SQ7 TDI crossover. Next month, Audi will introduce the next-generation A5 coupe and convertible.
Towards the second half of this year, Audi will start up their new plant in Mexico that will produce the next-generation Q5 crossover.
One more thing!
Stadler revealed the next-generation Audi A8 flagship would be unveiled next year and be the first vehicle in the lineup to get self-driving technologies. This includes the ability of the A8 to travel up to 37 mph through the new Traffic Jam Pilot system. We first learned that Audi was going to incorporate some self-driving tech into the A8 earlier this week through an interview with Dr. Stefan Knirsch, the new technical boss at the company.
