Rolls-Royce isn't only known for building ultra-luxury vehicles, but engines for airplanes. A new patent application possibly reveals a new special edition model paying homage to one of their most famous engines.
AutoGuide found a patent application filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for 'Wraith Merlin', which possibly hints at a new special edition for the Wraith coupe.
Merlin is one of the most important nameplates for Rolls-Royce. Going into production back in 1936, the Merlin was a 27L V12 that would power a number of planes used during World War II - the most famous being the Spitfire. When production ended in 1951, 168,040 engines were built - 55,000 were built under license by Packard.
Don't expect Rolls-Royce to jam in a Merlin engine in Wraith. Instead, expect either a special color, visual cues, or something that pays homage to this engine.
