The automaker who invented the seat-belt back in the 50's has issued a recall for 79,000 vehicles because of an issue with it.

In a filing with Transport Canada, the Swedish Automaker explains the issue deals with connecting pin in the buckle. A manufacturing issue with the pin could cause a separation between the buckle and the seat belt bracket, causing the seat belt to not fully work in the event of a crash.

Volvo spokesman Jim Nichols tells Automotive News (Subscription Required) the move “mainly precautionary,” as no crashes have been reported.

The recall affects 74,000 vehicles in the U.S. and 5,084 vehicles in Canada. Models involved in this recall include,

  • 2016-2017 S60
  • 2016-2017 V60
  • 2016-2017 XC60
  • 2016-2017 XC90
  • 2017 S90

Volvo sent out recall notices on October 28th to owners and dealers. The repair should only take a few moments as the dealer will inspect the seatbelts and replace the parts if necessary. Dealers are also inspecting vehicles for this problem before they deem them safe to be sold.
