Volvo Skips Urban Areas When It Comes To Autonomous Technologies

Whether you like it or not, autonomous technologies are coming to vehicles. But that doesn't mean you won't be able to drive one.

Take for example Volvo which has no plans to introduce fully autonomous cars in urban areas.

“We have no ambition to have a car that could drive in urban environments from A to B. If you’re a normal consumer, is that really what you are dreaming about? We believe more that in a situation where it’s not really fun to drive, you can switch on the autopilot and then sit back and do something else, using that time more productively. That is the product we are developing,” Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson told Autocar.

Volvo believes drivers will prefer the partial autonomous system it is currently developing. The automaker plans on testing their system on a 100 XC90s being driven daily on Swedish roads next year. A similar program will take place in London next year.
