The Ford Transit Connect is already the most popular compact cargo van in America and Ford is loading up the 2019 Transit Connect with technology and a diesel version to keep it ahead of the pack.

When Ford introduced the Transit Connect in America, in 2009, it was the highest-selling compact cargo van in Europe. It is now the highest-selling compact cargo van in the U.S. and Ford is making big upgrades in the 2019 Ford Transit Connect to keep it ahead of the others.

Going Diesel

For 2019, the Transit Connect will offer a new 1.5-liter EcoBlue® diesel engine. It will be the only diesel in the segment and is expected to have an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of at least 30 mpg on the highway. According to Ford, the new diesel engine combines the latest in fuel injection, turbocharging and emissions-control technologies as well as Auto Start-Stop for reliable performance along with reduced fuel consumption. The new EcoBlue engine is also fitted with the 8-speed automatic transmission.

The EcoBlue diesel arrives at a time when other automakers are cutting back on their diesel offerings. The diesel joins two other powertrain offerings. The 2019 Transit Connect will come standard with a new 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline direct injection engine with Auto Start-Stop that is paired to a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The gasoline version can also run on E85. Fleet buyers can also get the 2019 Transit Connect with CNG or Propane configurations.

The 2019 Ford Transit Connect is designed with businesses in mind. Not only can the cargo section be configured a number of different ways, depending on what you need to carry, but the vehicle will be loaded with technology to help you manage your business on the go.

Loaded with Wireless Technology

The 2019 Transit Connect will feature the only standard embedded 4G LTE modem in the segment to provide Wi-Fi for up to 10 devices. A 6.5-inch floating touch screen is available to help drivers keep their eyes on the road as they handle customer calls and text messages hands-free.

The 2019 Transit Connect will be available with wireless phone charging. The FordPass App can help monitor small fleets, including driver location, fuel level, tire pressure and more. Ford also offers owners the unprecedented ability to control their fleet. Ford’s MyKey® programmable ignition key remains standard for Transit Connect XLT. It enables owners and fleet administrators to preset warnings and limits for vehicle speed, while restricting the entertainment system’s audio to 45 percent of maximum volume. The MyKey program allows owners to control some of the options that are frequently tied to inattentive or distracted driving. While the MyKey programming keeps drivers safer, it also can help with liability and insurance.

The Ford Transit Connect already controls 46 percent of the compact cargo van market in the U.S., primarily because of its versatility. The 2019 Transit Connect builds on the popular options. It offers dual sliding side doors. It is easy to load and the near-vertical walls and integrated tie-downs allow you to maximize your cargo space. When the Transit Connects were originally marketed in America, they were designed for businesses ranging from flower delivery to dog grooming and everything in between. Now they are used by delivery services, painters, plumbers and small businesses everywhere. They are especially popular in urban areas, because of their compact size.

The 2019 Ford Transit Connect will go on sale this fall.
