An SUV version of the GMC Hummer EV Supertruck will start competing soon as part of Chip Ganassi Racings' legendary teams.
GMC announced that the all-new GMC Hummer EV is ready to go extreme racing and it has landed a partnership with racing legend Chip Ganassi to make it happen. Even though the all-electric 2022 GMC Hummer EV Supertruck is not being delivered to buyers yet, the racing version of a Hummer SUV is ready to show what it can do. This will be Chip Ganassi Racing’s first electric racing attempt and it will take place in the all-new Extreme E 2021 season.
“I can’t think of a better fit than showcasing the look of GMC’s HUMMER EV in Extreme E with Chip Ganassi Racing,” said Jim Campbell, General Motors U.S. vice president, Performance and Motorsports. “Both GMC HUMMER EV and the Extreme E series are designed to be revolutionary – to challenge perceptions of electric vehicles and to showcase their true capability.”
Off-road racers Kyle LeDuc and Sara Price will serve as drivers of the 550-horsepower electric SUV for CGR in the series. The SUV competition version has a special grille, graphics and bodywork. This is the first time that GMC has focused attention on the GMC Hummer SUV version of its new all-electric vehicles that will be built on the Ultium platform. Up until now, all of the attention has been on the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Supertruck.

The all-new Extreme E five-race global championship will take place in some of the world’s most remote locations and highlights the adoption of electric vehicles. Fans will be able to follow the racing series on GMC’s social channels.

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Supertruck
When the all-electric truck, labeled Edition 1, rolls off the line later this year, it will have the best of what GM has to offer. The supertruck will have a range of 350 miles on a single charge, and its three-motors will combine to produce GM-estimated best-in-class 1,000 horsepower and GM-estimated 11,500 lb.-ft. of torque. Edition 1 Hummers will sell for a whopping $112,595 with cheaper, less equipped versions to follow. Three separate motors within two Ultium drive units will give HUMMER EV’s e4WD remarkable on- and off-road capabilities, all with zero emissions.
While the first run of GMC Hummer EV supertrucks sold out immediately, reservations are being accepted for select trims. The 2022 GMC HUMMER EV, which will launch with initial production this fall. With 800-volt DC fast charging capability, the GMC HUMMER EV is expected to have industry-best charging capability at any of the new 350-kilowatt high output public DC fast charging stations — the fastest method supported by current charging standards. GMC is not saying when the SUV version will be available for the public to buy.

Chip Ganassi Racing is celebrating its 31st anniversary in 2021. CGR has claimed eight wins in the Rolex 24 At Daytona, four Indianapolis 500s, the Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
