There are only a few major awards that make a difference in vehicle sales. This is one of them.

The mid-size pickup segment is one of the hottest markets right now, with many drivers opting for the truck for work, recreation and their family vehicle as well. The mid-size segment is very competitive, with automakers loading up on luxury and off-road equipment. The all-new 2024 Chevrolet Colorado beat a crowded field to win the coveted “Golden Calipers” as MotorTrend’s 2024 Truck of the Year. This is the third time Colorado came out on top in MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year competition following the mid-size truck’s win in 2015 and 2016. The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado is also a finalist for the 2024 North American Truck of the Year award from the Automotive Press Association.

“We are absolutely thrilled to see Colorado take home the MotorTrend Truck of the Year award,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “The all-new Colorado boasts elevated performance, capability and refinement in every respect, across every trim offered. This award is a testament to Colorado’s mantra: it’s made for more.”

The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado

Chevrolet redesigned the Colorado for the new model year adding a new Trail Boss package but also keeping the powerful Z71, ZR2 models as well as the LT and Work trims. The result is a full lineup for whatever the driver needs. MotorTrend  credited the Colorado’s modern interior, versatile bed and strong feature content, on top of incredible off-road capability across the lineup, as part of its winning package.

As I reported earlier, Chevrolet has also partnered with AEV for  a 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison version. Chevrolet says the mid-size Colorado Bison offers incredible performance without sacrificing comfort, handling or safety.

“The Colorado lineup’s performance on- and off-road, particularly the ZR2's prowess, is nothing short of exceptional, rivaling even some of the most revered off-road vehicles available,” said Ed Loh, MotorTrend Group head of editorial. “Earning MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year award is a testament to the Colorado’s all-encompassing excellence across various terrains and utility needs.”

2024 is Big Year for Chevrolet Models

Colorado’s win follows MotorTrend naming the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV its SUV of the Year. This is the first time MotorTrend has awarded both of its coveted awards to the same brand, with Colorado and Blazer EV on top of their segments.

As I reported in June, the 2024  Blazer EV is incredibly important for Chevrolet, because it badly needs an affordable mid-size SUV. There are lots of small EVs, but the Blazer EV will be able to carry more passengers comfortably, while still being relatively affordable. The Blazer was recently certified by the EPA at 324 miles on a full charge. There is also a sporty SS model, which should make it more attractive to many buyers.

The Truck of the Year title is one of MotorTrend’s most prestigious awards and Colorado beat out 13 different models this year. Eligible trucks compete across six key criteria, including safety, advancement in design and performance of intended function.

When the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado Will be Available

The 2024 Colorado is built at General Motors’ Wentzville Assembly in Missouri. Ordering is now open for all 2024 Colorado trims, with trucks set to begin arriving at dealerships in early 2024.
