Chevy used the "Work Truck Show" in Indianapolis, Indiana, to unveil versions of the 2019 Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD Medium Duty trucks. They may be called medium duty but these trucks are big chassis trucks meant for hard work.
The Work Truck Show underway in Indianapolis, Indiana, is all about demonstrating the latest that is available to help people who need trucks to do their jobs. Chevrolet is rolling out its medium duty truck line that will now be branded as part of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado family. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD are chassis cab trucks that buyers can customize for any work situation.
Ed Peper, the U.S. vice president of GM’s Fleet division says in a statement, “Chevy’s designers and engineers were obsessed with making this Silverado the most customer-focused medium duty truck of any major competitor. By customer-focused, I mean work-ready trucks that are easy to upfit, easy to drive, easy to service and easy to own.”
Easy to Configure
The new chassis cabs feature factory painted frames, with one piece frame rails. There are seven cab-to-axle options ranging from 60 to 162-inches. The range of sizes should fit most work related needs
.
The chassis cabs are designed with a lightweight, front-hinged “clamshell” hood that, combined with a 50-degree wheel cut, allows easy “walk up” access to under-hood components.
The contoured hood improves the driver’s view of the road. Maneuverability is also improved because of up to 50-degree wheel cuts.
According to Chevrolet the 2019 Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD are designed with triple-sealed, inset doors to help reduce wind and road noise.
The Silverado will be available in 2WD and 4WD and will be powered by a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engine with 350 horsepower and 700 lb.-ft. of torque. The trucks will offer OnStar as well as a built-in 4GLTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
Building on Brand Loyalty
Chevrolet is clearing pursuing the same branding strategy that Ford has used for years. Ford markets its medium duty trucks as the Ford F-450, Ford F-550 and Ford F-650. By marketing the vehicles as a series, it often builds brand loyalty among buyers. People who favor the F-150 will often choose the larger F-450 when buying for work or fleets. The new Chevrolet Silverado branding may build on similar buyer preferences.
According to Ed Peper, “Chevrolet’s return to the conventional cab medium duty segment is part of a multi-year strategy to earn the business and loyalty of Commercial and Government customers by expanding into new product segments, delivering innovative business solutions, superior value and an exceptional customer experience.” Peper continues, “It’s a fact: The more choices we offer truck customers, the more we drive sales across our entire portfolio. That’s because brand and dealer loyalty run deep in this business.”
Pricing for the 2019 medium duty Silverados will be released this summer with production scheduled to begin in the fall.
