Now that the pressure to go all-electric has eased a little, Dodge says it is keeping another fan favorite!
Now that Carlos Tavares is gone from Stellantis and President-elect Donald Trump says he will ease the government mandates on going all-electric, Dodge is keeping the HEMI engine alive for 2025. Dodge says it is extending the production of the HEMI-powered Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat and Dodge Durango R/T models. As I reported earlier, Dodge was already offering four HEMI-powered special edition models. Now, it is keeping the HEMI for general production.
“The Dodge Durango and the HEMI engine form a powerful pair, and Dodge will continue to produce the most powerful gas engine SUV on the planet into the 2025 calendar year,” said Matt McAlear, Dodge CEO – Stellantis. “It’s the perfect capstone for our celebration of 20 years of HEMI-powered Durango models.”
Why Fans Love the HEMI Durango
Dodge says this about continuing the HEMI Durango models,
“Due in part to market demand and customer feedback, the brand’s three-row SUV will continue to roar with an available supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V-8 engine, producing 710 horsepower and 645 lb.-ft. of torque, as well as the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine, standard on the Durango R/T and delivering 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque.”
In other words, Dodge needs products to sell, and people love the HEMI horsepower. There is a certain cache about having a HEMI. People ask about them and admire them. Talk to anyone that has one, it draws attention wherever you go. Dodge’s decision to keep building some HEMIs was part of the 20th anniversary celebration of HEMI-powered Dodge Durango production.
As I have reported, Dodge recently introduced four special-edition models to celebrate two decades of the Durango-fueled HEMI. The models are: the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Brass Monkey, Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Hammerhead, Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Silver Bullet and Dodge Durango R/T 20th Anniversary edition.
You can now order the 2025 model-year HEMI-powered Durango at your Dodge dealership. Dodge will also continue to offer the Durango GT with its award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine.
Dodge Filling Out its Lineup
Dodge is proceeding with its growing lineup. It will produce its all-new Dodge Charger Daytona muscle car. While the Daytona is launching as the brand’s first all-electric vehicle, gas-powered versions of the Dodge Charger SIXPACK options are scheduled to arrive next year. Dodge also offers a smaller Hornet in performance hybrid and gas-powered versions.
