The 2025 Mustang GTD has 815-horsepower and an incredible top speed of 202 MPH.

Bill Ford once told me that his favorite car was a 1966 Ford Mustang, so it seems fitting that the company is revealing its most powerful Mustang ever, the same week that he is being inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame. While Ford has championed the push toward EVs, he is a “car guy” at heart. Ford started at Ford Motor in 1979 and has helped steer the company through perilous economic times. As Chairman, he can claim both EV and performance advancements. The all-new 2025 Mustang GTD jumps to the top of the Mustang corral with 815-horsepower and 664-lb.ft. of torque. It is the most powerful street-legal Mustang.

"We’ve been laser focused since day 1 to make Mustang GTD the first-ever supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang,” said Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall. “GTD's heart is its supercharged 5.2-liter V8, packing more horsepower per liter than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.”

What Makes the 2025 Mustang GTD So Fast

The heart of the Mustang GTD is the supercharged 5.2-liter V8. It improves on previous Mustang engines and has a new oil system to help keep it lubricated. The GTD also has improved  aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, and inboard-rear suspension. The design and engineering team is taking the all-new GTD to the famed Nurburgring track for testing. The team is hoping to complete a track lap in under seven minutes, which is a huge accomplishment. The GTDs top speed of 202 MPH will be on full display.

The Mustang GTD also features a Drag Reduction System that can change the angle of the rear wing and activate flaps under the front of the car to find exactly the right balance between airflow for speed and downforce for grip, depending on performance conditions.

“We've combined the work of talented engineers and designers, as well as an extremely capable driver, with Mustang GTD technology, power and aerodynamics,” said Goodall. “We can’t wait to deliver on our sub-7-minute promise to GTD customers.”

Race Car Origins and Price Tag to Match

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is a street-legal version of Ford’s GT3 race car. Ironically, it is more powerful than the GT3 because the racing series limits how powerful the race cars can be. Ford doesn’t talk about the price of the GTD much, but the super Mustang is expected to cost at least $300,000. Ford is expected to only build about 1,000 of the GTDs. Because of its racing genes and limited production run, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is expected to be an instant collectible.

Bill Ford Hall of Fame Induction

Bill Ford will be inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame on September 19th. The ceremony will take place at the Michigan Train Station that Ford has brought back to life in downtown Detroit.
