As Ram gears up to build its first all-electric Ram truck in 2024, it is phasing out its EcoDiesel engine. If you want a new diesel Ram 1500, you better order soon. Production will end at the end of January in 2023.
Ram is giving all of its EcoDiesel fans fair warning. It plans to end production of its 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel in January of 2023. If you want one of them, you should plan to order it soon. Ram’s EcoDiesel debuted nearly a decade ago and brought with it some incredible numbers. It was the first vehicle that I can recall that could travel over 1000 miles on a single tank of fuel. It was impressive then and is still impressive today.
“Our Ram EcoDiesel V-6 engine has delighted consumers with the highest half-ton diesel torque rating and towing capability while being the first to exceed 1,000 miles of range,” said Mike Koval Jr., Ram brand CEO – Stellantis. “As we quickly pivot toward an electrified future, we wanted to celebrate this last EcoDiesel milestone by offering our loyal light-duty diesel enthusiasts a final opportunity to order the truck they love.”
2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel
The 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is available in Crew Cab 4x4 models and can be ordered now. EcoDiesel will be available in Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Limited Longhorn and Limited models.
The unique powertrain debuted in 2014 and created a loyal following. It was upgraded in 2020 and delivered unheard of performance. The 2020 Ram 1500 was America’s most powerful half-ton diesel pickup, with 480 lb.-ft. of torque, and most capable light-duty diesel, with towing capability up to 12,560 pounds. The new-generation 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel reinforced Ram Truck’s commitment to powertrain leadership and led the segment in fuel economy. The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 4x2 scored 32 mpg highway and 29 mpg highway for 4x4 models. Ram EcoDiesel’s range exceeded 1,000 miles per fill-up, the highest among all pickup trucks.
Ram Motoring Toward the Future
Ram is shifting its attention away from the EcoDiesel engine and toward the future of electrification. Although, it is still offering the big diesel engine in its 2023 Ram Heavy Duty trucks. Ram already offers some mild hybrid and etorque powertrains but is planning to go full bore into electrification. Ram is promising to have a battery electric pickup available in 2024. Ram also plans to have a full portfolio of electrified solutions for most of its segments by 2025 and in all segments by 2030.
The 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is open for orders now. Production will end at some point in January.
