Ram is recalling some of its 2018 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks for problems with the rear-view mirrors. Dodge is also recalling some of its 2018 Dodge Journeys for similar problems. The recall numbers are small but the problems affect the rear-view mirrors and can cause safety concerns.
Fiat-Chrysler is recalling less than 4000 2018 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks and 2018 Dodge Journeys because of problems with the rear view mirrors. There are actually two separate recalls but both involve problems with the rear view cameras and the rear view mirrors.
Recall Affecting Ram and Dodge
More than 1800 Ram trucks and Dodge Journeys are being called back because the displays from the rear-view cameras can disappear while the vehicles are in reverse. The company found out about the rear-view camera display problems during testing in Mexico earlier this year. The dealers should have the parts by August 3rd and will just replace the rear view cameras to fix the problems free of charge. That recall involves some 2018 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 models and some 2018 Dodge Journeys. The number for the Fiat-Chrysler recall is U56.
Recall Just Affecting Dodge Journeys
In the other recall, Dodge is recalling some Dodge Journeys because the rear camera screens aren’t totally visible immediately. Dodge says the view of the camera may be partially blocked by a warning message at first, but federal rules require that the camera view must be visible within two seconds of putting the vehicle in reverse. The warning message isn’t large enough to block the entire screen but the feds say that the whole screen must be visible. The Dodge Journeys in that recall were built from May 1-25, 2018. Fiat-Chrysler also discovered this problem during testing earlier this year. Dealers will replace the rear-view mirrors where the displays are located free of charge. Dealers should have the parts on hand by August 3. The recall number for that situation is U58.
Less than 4000 vehicles are involved in this recall, but so many people rely on their rear-view cameras, a failure could lead to an accident.
Owners of the affected vehicles should be notified about the recalls. Fiat-Chrysler has set up a phone number for any owners who have concerns or questions. The number is 800-853-1403.
