A glitch in the trailering system is causing some problems with the rearview camera display.
Summer is the season when it seems like everyone is hauling a boat, a camper or ATVs. Modern technology has made trailering much easier. However, a problem with a trailer steering module is forcing the recall of 14,000 2021 Ram 1500 trucks. Engineers found that some of the trailer reverse steering modules aren’t powering down correctly and it is causing problems with the display. 2021 Ram 1500 owners who are affected will be notified about the recall.
What is Causing the Problem?
According to CarComplaints.com, Some 2021 Ram 1500 trucks aren’t displaying the correct rearview images when in reverse. Federal safety rules require the rearview camera system to default to the rearview image when you start backing up. However, in the cases where the trailer reverse steering modules aren’t working correctly, the driver doesn’t see an image. Instead, the driver sees an electronic throttle control warning light.
How Dealers Will Fix the Problem
Ram dealers can fix the problematic trailer reverse steering modules by updating the software. Ram expects to mail the recall notices by July 30, 2021.
Any owners with questions or concerns can call 800-853-1403. The recall number is Y30. It is important that any of the drivers who rely on this sort of technology also be very aware of their surroundings and always double check before backing up.
