Even though the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 hasn't hit the streets yet, Ford is using its aerodynamics to improve the other performance Mustang Shelbys.
While drivers are anxiously waiting to get their hands on the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Ford is giving others buyers new reasons to be excited. Ford is using new design elements from the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 to improve the track version of the Mustang Shelby GT350 known as the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R.
1. New Technology Improves 2020 GT350R Handling
Ford says that the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 will be the most technically advanced Mustang, ever. Engineers and designers at the Blue Oval have upgraded the chassis, suspension and turbochargers to create the 760-horsepower beast. Now, they are using the new performance technology to improve the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350R.
In 2020, Ford will improve the handling and steering on the Mustang Shelby GT350R. Ford is using the GT500’s redesigned front suspension. The changes include using the 2020 GT500’s high-trail steering components, giving the driver better control over the front end of the vehicle.
2. Improved Steering for the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350R
Second, Ford will also improve the driver’s control of the 2020 GT350R by adding the new steering rack designed for the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500. Ford will also be giving the GT350R a recalibrated electric power steering control.
“It’s always been our plan to take the latest innovations from the GT500 program and strategically apply them across the Mustang lineup,” said Ed Krenz, Ford Performance chief program engineer. “These latest updates to the GT350R keep its performance competitive and on the top if its game, whether that’s on the track or on the street.”
Buyers can also thank the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 for giving the 2020 GT350R carbon fiber wheels, a larger front splitter and a bigger rear wing.
Ford says the changes will make the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350R more fun to drive on the track.
There are many other changes coming to the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350R, as well as the big ones I mentioned. The exhaust resonators have been removed to cut the weight of the vehicle and make it sound better. No word yet on fuel economy or horsepower for the 2020 GT350R.
The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350R is also getting some new colors like Grabber Lime and Twister Orange. Other new colors are Iconic silver and Red Hot Metallic.
Drivers who want to be more comfortable while racing on the track can add a technology package with a premium sound system, blind spot information system, cross traffic alerts and voice activated navigation. That should get drivers around the track in style!
