More and more 2019 Chevrolet Silverados are hitting dealer lots. Although GM is not releasing monthly sales data, two new features are winning praise and sure to be popular.
If Ford and Fiat Chrysler’s sales numbers are any indication, Chevrolet’s November sales are heavily reliant on the success of its 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. The all-new 2019 Silverado 1500 offers six engine and transmission combinations, but one of the new features getting the most attention is called Dynamic Fuel Management.
What Dynamic Fuel Management Means
The crew-cab V-8 models are already on many dealer lots with Chevrolet gearing up to build the rest of the line-up. Dynamic fuel management will be available on the models with the 5.7-Liter V-8 with the LT and RST trim and standard on the LT Trail Boss, LTZ and High Country versions. Dynamic Fuel Management is even better than the previous Active Fuel Management because it features 17 different modes of cylinder deactivation depending on the power that is needed in the situation. That means the vehicle can automatically improve your fuel economy.
Adam Maqboul of AmericanTrucks.com says of the new Dynamic Fuel Management, “17 different firing orders! That’s insane! That’s a whole new technology we haven’t seen in a truck before. It’s all new. It deactivates up to 7 of your 8 cylinders.” Maqboul expects the system to have a significant effect on overall gas mileage and engine operation. Dynamic Fuel Management will also be available for some of the 6.2-Liter V-8 2019 Silverados.
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is also expected to improve fuel economy by light-weighting using more aluminum on some parts of the trucks like doors. The 2019 Silverados are up to 450 pounds lighter than the 2018 Silverados.
More Cargo Room Inside and Out
The 2019 Silverado is also pioneering its new Durabed truck bed, which is designed to be larger but longer lasting due to a special improved coating. The new bed made with high strength steel contains much more storage space than previous versions while also providing more tie-downs to keep cargo safer. Chevrolet says the 2019 Silverado will include more interi9or cargo room as well.
Designed for Improved Off-Roading
Many of the changes to the exterior of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado appear to be cosmetic or sheetmetal changes, but one will be significant for anyone who loves to go off-roading. Chevrolet has changed the shaped of the wheel wells for 2019. The wheel wells are now rounded on the new trucks compared to the older versions that were squared off. That means that the new trucks will accommodate much larger tires. Maqboul says the change is one of the biggest upgrades. “The new rounded wheel wells allow for 33” tires from the factory. The new circular wheel wells with a lift kit allow for even more possibilities."
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverados are being built on a specific schedule to roll out the trucks that are expected to be the most popular first. The crew-cab V-8 models started delivery in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, production will expand to include regular- and double-cab models, as well as V-6 and 2.7L Turbo engines. The new Duramax 3.0L inline-six turbo diesel will be available in early 2019. Chevrolet has not released all of the fuel economy ratings yet.
