Still reeling from the Dieselgate emissions scandal that continues to embroil Volkswagen, the automaker nevertheless turned in more than reasonable sales performance numbers.
Though it has felt the impact of its self-inflicted diesel cheating scandal to the tune of $16.5 billion and counting, Volkswagen has also had a year that, were it not for the emissions troubles, would be a success by any measure.
According to information released Thursday by the automaker, VW sales in November were nearly 30,000 or a 24.2 percent increase over 2015. Led by Golf SportWagen sales, which scored an impressive 246 percent increase over 2015, overall sales for the month were high, at 29,672 units. SportWagen sales were 2,174 units. According to the automaker, SportWagen sales also included sales of the all-new Alltrack.
Meantime, the compact crossover Tiguan moved off of dealer lots in respectable numbers at 4,516 vehicles. Passat, which was redesigned for 2016, had decent sales 6,441 cars.
According to sales figures published by the automaker, November saw the Jetta sedan taking total monthly sales honors with 10,212 vehicles. In year-to-date sales, Jetta took home top sales kudos with 108,023 vehicles. The Golf family of cars sold 52,719 vehicles. While those sales numbers were impressive, they still followed Passat’s year-to-date performance with 65,761 vehicles sold.
The Tiguan crossover had year-to-date performance of 38,063 vehicles.
Through the end of November, VW sold a total of 285,719 vehicles.
