A pair of drivers for the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team takes the driver's championship to the season finale in Los Angeles today, each campaigning in new livery.
When the flag drops on today’s finale of the Red Bull Grand GRC in Los Angeles a pair of drivers for the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team will be chasing the top spot in the race series driver’s championship. Tanner Foust and Scott Speed lead the field with four wins and three wins, respectively. Volkswagen, which provides the Beetles that Foust and Speed have campaigned this season, has already wrapped up the Manufacturer’s Championship. The German automaker claimed it two weeks ago in Seattle.
Driver Reclaims Lead
Foust reclaimed the points lead in Seattle with a victory. He has lead the points race most of the season. A two-time series champ, he has dominated this year, winning every one of his 25 heats and semis, along with a career-best four victories. “There’s no question that we’ve been in a great place all season long, but from a behind-the-scenes perspective, things have really been a roller coaster. We’ve worked our tails off to be at the front of the pack and I know that if we keep that effort up, I’ll be in agreat position to earn another title – my first with Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross,” said Foust.
Speed linked together a fantastic string of mid-season results, taking the points lead after Atlantic City with three consecutive race victories. He finished fourth in Seattle, letting Foust retake the points lead, heading into the final showdown of the season in L.A. “We’ve been strong all year and as long as we can stay clean in L.A., I’m confident that the team can grab some more great results to wrap up the season,” Speed said. “It’s always exciting to come out to L.A. and I’m looking forward to putting on a great show for some passionate rallycross fans.”
Both Beetle GRCs will bear wearing special livery today as VW celebrates the launch of the new, special editon #PinkBeetle. Speed will drive the No 41 #PinkBeetle Beetle GRC, while Foust will race the No.34 Rockstar Perfectberry Rockstar Beetle GRC. The special livery celebrates The Pink Agenda, a charity dedicated to improving breast cancer car and research.
Easy To Spot
“It’s going to be very easy to spot our cars this weekend,” Foust joked. “I’m glad to be raising awareness for the great charity with Rockstar and we’ll be working extra hard to get some strong finishes for them”
“As if this weekend needed more excietement. I’m happy to be driving the first race car version of the #PinkBeetle,” Speed enthused. “Mine may have a few more ponies under the hood but it’s not more eye-catching than what you can get in dealer showrooms this month. I’ll have a blast racing it around the track.”
The race kicks off at 3 p.m. (EDT) or noon (PDT) on NBC.
