The all-new 2018 Honda Accord has changed its game again by redesigning everything from the trunk to the engine.
The all new accord will be changing everything for 2018 and I mean everything. There will no longer be a shifter lever for the automatic version. There are buttons and knobs again for changing things like radio stations and climate controls. There will be no option of a two-door coupe this year and to the surprise of some, no more v6 engines in Honda Accords.
The Redesign and Behind The Steering Wheel of The New Accord
I personally love the new redesign. On the outside, you will notice the sharp edges that accent subtle curves of the body. The way the LED headlights blend nicely with the grill and how the exhaust tips nestle snugly in the rear bumper. If you opt for the touring trim you'll also get 19-inch rims. But let's get down to brass tacks.
The new Accord’s looks aside we take you inside where you'll find some comfy seats that hug you and keep you from sliding around when taking them apexes at speed. On the dash there is a nice sized touch screen that works very much like your smartphone giving you and will even connect with it using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto unless you get the LX.
Behind the steering wheel, there is another display that can be changed to show whatever info the driver needs. I like how at night the climate controls glow white, but will briefly change to red or blue showing the selection you have made. You also get more room for backseat passengers and car seats hopefully making it harder for the kids to kick the front seats. The trunk has also grown to 16.7 cubic-feet making it the largest in its class so there should be plenty of room for bass audiophiles to cram in subwoofers.
Under The Hood of The 2018 Honda Accord
Moving under the hood you have two turbocharged options to choose from a 1.5L and a 2.0L. The 1.5L makes 192 horsepower at 5,500 rpm with 192 foot-pounds of torque from 1,600 rpm all the way to 5,000 rpm.
I want to talk about the 2.0L though. The new Accord borrowed this from its little brother the Civic Type-R. It has been down tuned for the midsize sedan and puts out 252 horsepower at 6,500 rpm with 273 foot-pounds of torque from 1,500 rpm all the way up to 4,000 rpm. Keeping in mind this down tune I spoke of earlier it makes me excited to see what car tuners in the future will be able to squeeze out of the new turbocharged 2.0L with only a minor ECU tune, but we know they won't stop there.
So tell me what you think. Are you looking forward to the changes or will you shun them for getting rid of the v6? Let me know in the comment below.
