Does 2021 Camry have what it takes to compete in power? Toyota Camry owners weigh in with intriguing feedback.
Toyota probably knew they had a winner many years ago with Camry. Known for long-term quality and dependability, Camry has become a favorite for sedan shoppers.
But I wonder if Toyota knew they would be manufacturing the top selling midsize sedan in America for 19 consecutive years. That is nearly two straight decades.
Incredible statistic there, friends.
2021 Toyota Camry horsepower
There are many things to like about the latest 8th generation Camry. For today, I want to focus on performance – specifically its power.

The current Camry, including 2021 Camry, produces 203 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. torque with its 4-cylinder engine. Drivers can get 206 horsepower with the Camry XSE.
Another option is choosing a Toyota Camry V6 engine. You can find this in Camry TRD, XLE V6 and XSE V6. This powerful engine can deliver 301 horsepower and 267 lb.-ft. torque.
How does this power translate to the real world, though? I polled Toyota Camry owners to see if their Camry has the chops it takes for everyday use.
People comment on 2021 Camry
I invited members of Toyota Camry Club to comment on their experiences with not only the current 2021 Camry / current 8th generation, but also previous years too. My “Toyotajeff” YouTube channel viewers also chimed in.
Keven commented. “I think it’s fast enough at 203 hp. One of the fastest on the midsized sedan segment.”
“Just bought my 2021 SE last month. First trip in the mountains I was happy. It zipped up the hills no problem.” Added Jesse. Congrats on your new car by the way.
Jamison said. “I think my 17 with the 178HP 4cyl is fast enough, so 20 more horsepower would definitely be fast enough for a daily driver IMO.”
As you would expect, not all Camry drivers feel the same way.
“My 2016 with the 4cyl is definitely gutless.” Said Rusty. I wonder if he has tried the new 2021 Camry with 203 horsepower. Might make a difference. You never know.
Scott is seeing good results for fuel efficiency and power. “I have a 2020 se cheap on gas and does fine but you get on top end with the 8-speed transmission baby will roll.”
“Mine is not newer 2011 but has awesome pickup and gets great gas mileage. Heck, it even goes fast in reverse without touching the gas!” Deana exclaimed.
“My 2021 Camry TRD flies!! Handling! Cornering! Love the red interior too!!” I think my YouTube channel viewer mikeyd is a fan.
“It’s not so much the power but how smooth my Camry LE is. Like butter.” Stated Luke.
Camry owner Macho had a fantastic idea. “You should title your Story ‘Zippy Camry.’”
I like it Macho. I just had to include your comment.
Time for your thoughts on Toyota Camry
Thanks for reading everyone.
I leased a 2018 Camry XLE for three years, and until I just bought my 2021 Venza Limited, it was the best car I have ever owned.
My Camry had good pep and was indeed zippy. I found I could speed up on a highway ramp to my top cruising speed easily, even going uphill.

Do you own a 2021 Toyota Camry or other year Camry? If so, what is your experience so far? How does it do for mpg and for speed and pickup?
Or maybe you own a Camry Hybrid. What is your experience with this one? Are you happy with your fuel economy?

My '09 Corolla 1.8L with 195
My '09 Corolla 1.8L with 195,722 miles still has enough pep. Interstate merging is no problem at all.
I love my '19 Camry Hybrid
I love my '19 Camry Hybrid (LE). I've been getting 50 MPG, as calculated from gas refills, though the car's computer claims 51-52. It's quiet, has smooth acceleration, and is very comfortable. In the Texas heat, I like that the a/c runs even when the engine is off, which is nice when in a drive-thru or when waiting for curbside pickup. Compared to an older Prius, the car switches to all-electric even at highway speeds, and has roughly the same gas efficiency even though it's a bigger and better car. The range of 650+ miles is also nice.
My 2019 SE is ok off the line
My 2019 SE is ok off the line but when in motion she is zippy enough.
