Meet the newest addition to the 2021 Toyota Tacoma lineup. Outdoor fans will really enjoy it.
Toyota Tacoma just keeps getting better. One of the primary ways a vehicle like the Tacoma remains so successful for so long is to offer a truck to many different types of people. Well, it also has to be tough, reliable and dependable with a high resale value. Check, check, check and check.
The 2020 Tacoma appeals to several people with its offerings. The SR5 trim level is an everyday workhorse. TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro jump out at those people who plan on some serious off-the-beaten-path driving. For a sportier “more on-road” experience you can go for TRD Sport. Then Limited feeds our luxury features appetite.
Coming this summer to a dealership near you is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma Trail Special Edition. There is also a new Nightshade Tacoma (think 4Runner Nightshade and other popular models), but I will tell you about our new Nightshade friend in a story later this week.
2021 Tacoma Trail Special Edition Specs
For people who enjoy camping on the weekends, day trips to the lake and all other fun outdoor activities, the 2021 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition may be worth your consideration.
Start with an SR5 Double Cab as the foundation and then add in convenience, style and utility. Trail Special Edition is available in either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
One of the most common areas for improvement I hear about from viewers of my “Toyotajeff” YouTube channel is the need for more Toyota Tacoma storage. The Trail Edition helps a great deal by adding lockable storage compartments on both sides of the truck bed.
One “cool” feature is the driver side storage that is insulated so it can double as a drink or fishing cooler.
Also, look for 18-inch dark gray TRD Off-Road wheels with Kevlar All-Terrain tires, as well as the same front grille found in 2020 Tacoma Limited trim level. An added 115-volt power outlet in the truck bed will help when you need it most.
Now the 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro in Army Green will have a new friend, as the 2021 model year Tacoma Trail Edition will also be offered in Army Green. Other color choices are Midnight Black, Super White and Cement. On a side note, I recently wrote a Torque News story highlighting 2021 4Runner Trail Edition and the return of Cement color in this popular SUV.
I’ll take “Tacoma Trail Edition Quantities” for $7,000 please Alex
If you are interested in purchasing a 2021 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition, my suggestion is you put your request in early at your local dealership. Quantities will be low, and only 7,000 are expected to be built.
Tacoma Trail Edition should be reaching dealerships for retail sale in the summer of 2020.
Time for your thoughts on 2021 Tacoma
What do you think of the idea of a Trail Special Edition coming to the Toyota Tacoma? Will you plan to see one at your local dealership when they arrive?
Thanks for reading everyone. See you next story when I compare all trim levels of the 2020 Toyota Highlander, including a full video review.

I am thinking maybe just
I am thinking maybe just purchasing the bed storage bins and saving 6,600.00 on the newer Tacoma.
Makes a Yeti cooler look
Makes a Yeti cooler look cheap while taking up 2/3 of the bed space. Hard pass.
I’m thinking more engine
I’m thinking more engine power. Square away the haunting shifting in the tranny. And make the seats more comfortable The present seat feels like your sitting on a milk grate. Do away with the window dressing.
