Why You Cannot Find a 2020 Toyota Supra Launch Edition

Early returns are showing the new 2020 Toyota Supra to be a big success. So much, in fact, that it is proving challenging to get one. Here’s what we know so far.

The Toyota Supra is back and making an immediate splash. With a country-wide mass release to dealerships on July 22nd, Toyota knew it had a hit on its hands. But did they realize it would be quite this popular?

2020 Supra in full Launch mode

There are only 1500 to go around. Toyota manufactured exactly 1500 of its 2020 Supra Launch Edition cars. Each one possessing its own individual number along the passenger side dash. On a side note, the Launch Edition in Nocturnal Black that I saw was number 1178 of 1500.

Toyota has a lot to be excited about, based also on the huge popularity of the 2019 RAV4 gas and hybrid models, as well as the Tacoma.

These are the pride and joy of Supra Enthusiasts. Based on emails I have received from buyers looking far and wide for one, this has proven more challenging than anticipated.

How are people getting their 2020 Supra?

“Can you tell me where I can get a Launch Edition Supra? My dealership sold theirs before I could come in.” Said one frustrated man in the Atlanta area.

“I’m willing to drive if you can find me one.” Suggested another anxious Supra shopper.

Others are prepared to do whatever it takes to get their 2020 Supra Launch Edition. “I flew into Miami to get mine.” Commented a South Carolina new Supra Owner.

I know of one New York City resident who found his Launch Edition Supra in North Carolina. Please, also click to subscribe to Torque News Youtube channel for daily Toyota and automotive news analysis.

And if you cannot get your 2020 Supra Launch Edition

For those car shoppers unlucky in their pursuit for a Supra Launch Edition, there is still hope. Toyota offers 3 different grades for the 2020 Supra – the 3.0, the 3.0 Premium, and the Launch Edition.

My advice is to try for the 3.0 Premium if you are unable to secure a Launch Edition. The main differences between the 3.0 Premium and the Launch are different wheels and the color of the side mirror caps. The 3.0 Premium is standard with black caps while the Launch has its trademark red side mirror caps.

And now for your thoughts

What do you think of the Supra so far? Have you searched for one and were you successful in your search? If not, what did your dealership tell you for anticipated wait time?

Another article overhyping the Supra sales. There are plenty of Supras still for sale but all of them have huge mark ups. Just saw the new Supra today and the stealership wants $72k for it. The salesman even bragged about how they have the lowest priced Supra within a 200 miles radius.

Just checked autotrader.com and throughout the whole U.S. there are about 400 new Supras still for sale and most of them are still launch editions. There are more but some dealerships don't use Autotrader to advertise their vehicles. I don't know why the article is claiming that it's impossible to buy a launch edition when there's still plenty left over. Some are even advertised at MSRP but still not sold yet. I'm guessing the hype wasn't there as claimed or the release of the C8 persuaded some potential Supra buyers.
