Toyota has released 2020 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid gas mileage and towing figures. You will be pleased.

We are only a short time away from seeing our first 2020 Toyota Highlander SUVs in person at dealerships all across the country. The best-selling midsize SUV will become even more appealing to potential buyers with sophistical exterior and interior styling, improved safety features and plenty of new technology.

Today I will focus on two important criteria that many buyers will be looking for when picking a new vehicle – towing and that all-important gas mileage
.
2020 Highlander Powertrain Choices

All 2020 Toyota Highlander gasoline models feature a 3.5L V6 engine that produces 295 horsepower and 263 lb.-ft. torque. This is matched with a direct shift 8-speed automatic transmission.

A powertrain consisting of a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with electric motors, along with continuously variable transmission with sequential shift mode will power all 2020 Highlander Hybrid models. Hybrids will deliver 243 net system horsepower.

For the first time ever, all 2020 Highlander Hybrid and gasoline grades will be offered in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. This move will be extremely helpful to buyers who now can truly pick the optimal trim level for their families.

The 2020 Highlander is available in five gasoline and four hybrid trim levels, and provides seating for up to seven or eight-passenger configurations, depending on the grade you select.

Towing options for 2020 Highlander

Towing capacities for the 2020 Highlander are pretty simple to understand. All gasoline models have a tow capacity of 5,000 pounds. This tow rating is adjusted to 3,500 pounds for all 2020 Highlander Hybrid trim levels.

What about 2020 Toyota Highlander mpg?

Since front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are options with both gas and hybrid grades, there will be two different mpg ratings for each class.

With the Hybrid, front-wheel drive has fuel efficiency of 36mpg in the city, 35mpg on the highway, and 36mpg combined. All-wheel drive does not dip that much at all, with 35mpg city, 34mpg highway, and 35mpg combined.

For those who choose a gasoline-only 2020 Highlander the fuel efficiency logically decreases, but it is still very good for a midsize SUV.

Gasoline front-wheel drive trim levels combine for 24mpg, with 21mpg in the city and 29mpg along the highway. All-wheel drive models are rated at 23mpg combined, with 20mpg in the city and 27mpg for highway traveling.

Looks like they combined late 2000 version with something 'Mazda' and...BAM!

Sorry. Don't like it. Don't like it at all.

Thanks for the information Jeff. I'm very interested to test drive the Platinum Hybrid. I heard the tail gate is made of composite material versus steel - is that true and will it impact their safety rating. A few odd things, would have liked to see USB ports in the 3rd row and power folding mirrors. Oh well, you can't have it all...

Think the 2019 front end grill look is dependent on the trim and color selection. Some look very good, but on some there is just too much grill for my tastes. I think the 2020 looks are more consistent across the trim levels. Maybe even have a little bit of a Volvo XC looks. There are a few 2019 trim and colors I like better, but on overage L Like the look of the 2020s.
