The current generation of GLE was introduced in 2018, but Mercedes-Benz is making a series of significant updates to one of its flagship models, the GLE SUV. Both the regular version and the coupe variant, as well as the AMG versions, have been upgraded to remain relevant within a segment where competition is strong. This week I have been test-driving the 2024 AMG GLE 53 Coupe and here is my review.
Last week I had the opportunity to test drive the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe, and I have to say, the vehicle is impressive. This car is a really good blend of luxury and performance.
Building upon the solid foundation of the Benz-branded, the AMG-tuned GLE 53 Coupe takes performance to exhilarating new heights. This mid-size SUV is available in two striking body styles: the traditional squareback and the sporty coupe-like design. I test-drove the coupe. Whether you choose the GLE 53 or the range-topping GLE 63 S, both variants offer an abundance of horsepower, delivering an unrivaled driving experience. Speaking of the GLE, also see my 2021 GLE 450 4Matic review here.
Under the hood of the GLE53 Coupe lies a remarkably smooth 429-horsepower turbocharged inline-six engine, while the GLE63 S takes it up a notch with an awe-inspiring 603-horsepower twin-turbo V-8. Both powertrains are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, ensuring exceptional performance and control on any road. Despite the coupe styling's slight sacrifice in cargo space, the GLE's comfortable ride and tech-focused cabin remain uncompromised.
As standard, every 2024 GLE model boasts a range of luxurious features, including an electric panoramic sliding sunroof, heated front seats, and automatic high-beams. Moreover, this impressive SUV surprises with its ability to tow up to 7700 pounds, making it an ideal companion for both adventure seekers and luxury enthusiasts alike.
What's New and Changed in The 2024 AMG GLE 53
In 2024, the GLE 53 and GLE 63 S models undergo a mid-cycle refresh, enhancing their already impressive presence on the road. One notable update is the new front bumper on the GLE53, which adds a touch of attitude inspired by the GLE63 S. Both models also receive revised LED daytime running lights and taillights, further enhancing their modern and sleek appearance. Mercedes introduces two new paint options for the 2024 models, Alpine Grey and Twilight Blue metallic, allowing drivers to personalize their GLE even more.
Additionally, the GLE63 S coupe now comes standard with a new 22-inch forged wheel design, which not only adds to its sporty aesthetic but also enhances performance. This wheel design is also available as an option on other models within the GLE lineup. Mercedes has also focused on improving the driving experience, stating that the turbo six engine now delivers more torque, resulting in quicker acceleration. These updates in the 2024 GLE53 and GLE63 S demonstrate Mercedes' commitment to refining their already exceptional vehicles and ensuring they remain at the forefront of performance and style.
