There is a lot of beauty in the 2024 Nissan Rogue and despite some past indifference to the Rogue refresh, Nissan is on a roll. I am spending a week with the SL AWD trim of the 2024 Rogue and sharing my review below in this article.
The Nissan Rogue is the manufacturer's bread and butter. It is therefore not surprising that it receives modifications only three years after the arrival on the market of the third generation, in 2021. On the menu for 2024, retouches at the front and rear, but above all a cabin that now includes a 12.3-inch central screen, which corrects one of the main shortcomings of the 2023 Rogue. But beware! This new 12.3-inch screen is only offered on the SL and Platinum versions, the most equipped in the Rogue range.
I think if you are seeking a handsome and comfortable compact SUV that prioritizes tranquility over excitement, the 2024 Rogue delivers a drama-free experience.
What are the updates for the Nissan Rogue in 2024?
The 2024 Nissan Rogue sees a refresh compared to the 2023 model year, with some noticeable changes both inside and out. On the exterior, Nissan has given the Rogue a sleeker look with a redesigned grille that's more eye-catching. New wheel designs add a touch of freshness, and the rear bumper has also been revised.
Inside the cabin, the updates are more subtle. While there might be some minor tweaks to materials or layouts, the biggest addition is the new centerpiece of the infotainment system – a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen. This replaces the older 9.0-inch unit that was offered on the higher trims (SL and Platinum) in the previous model year. But the upgrade isn't just about size.
The 2024 Rogue offers a whole new Google-based infotainment system, complete with its suite of familiar apps. This should provide a more intuitive and user-friendly experience compared to the prior Nissan Connect system. Speaking of Nissan Connect, there's another perk – the complimentary trial period has been significantly extended. You'll now get three years of Nissan Connect services included, a big jump from the previous six months offered on the 2023 Rogue.
The fuel economy of the 2024 Nissan Rogue is rated at 30 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway for the front-wheel drive model, and 28 mpg city and 35 mpg highway for all-wheel drive.
The Rogue comes in four trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum. The base S trim level starts at $29,810, while the top-of-the-line Platinum trim level starts at $36,670 MSRP, reaching to $40,120 with option and the SL Premium Package added.
While for this review I drove the SL trim, I read online that according to some reviewers the SV trim offers the best mix of features for the money.
What engine does the 2024 Nissan Rogue come with?
The 2024 Nissan Rogue carries over the turbocharged engine introduced in the 2022 model year. It's a 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit that puts out a respectable 201 horsepower. Every Rogue pairs this engine with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive is standard, but you can opt for all-wheel drive for additional traction.
While reviewers felt the turbocharged engine made the Rogue feel livelier than the previous non-turbo 2.5-liter four-cylinder, objectively the performance gains are modest. During Car and Driver's testing, the 2024 Rogue with the turbo three-cylinder reached 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, which is only 0.4 seconds quicker than a 2021 Rogue with the older four-cylinder engine.
The focus here is on comfort rather than thrills. The Rogue offers a smooth ride that's well-suited for commuting and highway cruising. However, reviewers found the handling a bit bland, lacking the agility some might prefer for a more engaging driving experience. I didn't have any complaints.
How has Nissan redesigned the 2024 Rogue's style
While other models in Nissan's range had begun to incorporate the reinterpreted V-Motion grille, the Rogue had still not received it. This is now done for 2024, while the front of the vehicle is revised. Same thing for the rear which receives some design adjustments. The wheels have also been revised, now looking more like those of a 2023 Nissan LEAF.
In terms of style, new colors are offered. The black roof option is still available, to enhance the style. For 2024, the Platinum versions receive, like the Toyota RAV4 Prime and Mazda CX-5 Sport Design, glossy black rocker panels, to improve the impression of luxury.
Is Nissan Rogue Spacious, and how is the interior in general?
The 2024 Nissan Rogue prioritizes passenger comfort inside a stylish cabin that borrows design elements from its Nissan siblings, the Altima and Sentra. The interior offers a modern feel with thoughtful touches like rich-looking storage cubbies, a bi-level dashboard, and a squared-off shift knob that enhances usability.
Cloth seats come standard, but you can upgrade to optional faux-leather upholstery on the midrange SV trim. If you choose the top-tier SL or Platinum trims, you'll be enveloped in the luxury of genuine leather, with the Platinum offering a particularly upscale semi-aniline hide with quilted stitching.
When it comes to passenger comfort, the Rogue excels. The seats are some of the most comfortable in the class, according to reviewers, offering excellent support for both front and back passengers. The second row provides ample legroom, ensuring a pleasant ride for adults and children alike.
But the comfort doesn't stop at seating. The Rogue offers features like three-zone automatic climate control to keep everyone at their desired temperature, and heated front seats and steering wheel are available for added coziness on chilly days.
Finally, the Rogue delivers on cargo space. Behind the rear seats, you'll find 36.5 cubic feet of cargo room (with the Divide-N-Hide cargo system in its lowest position on SL and Platinum trims). Fold the rear seats down, and the cargo capacity expands to a maximum of 74.1 cubic feet, offering ample space for luggage, groceries, or sporting equipment.
How's the infotainment in 2024 Rogue?
The new 2024 Rogue offers a revamped infotainment system, with options to suit different preferences. The standard Rogue comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, but if you upgrade to the SL or Platinum trim, you'll be treated to a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen. This larger unit is where the magic happens – it's the first Nissan to integrate Google's built-in system. This translates to a user-friendly interface and access to a vast array of Google apps, keeping you connected and entertained on the go.
Thankfully, you're not limited to Google if you prefer other ecosystems. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard across all trims, providing seamless smartphone integration. For those who crave a truly premium audio experience, an optional Bose stereo system is available.
But the infotainment upgrades go beyond the central touchscreen. The 2024 Rogue offers a customizable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster on the SL and Platinum trims, allowing you to tailor the information displayed right behind the steering wheel. An even larger 10.8-inch head-up display projects vital information onto the windshield, keeping your eyes on the road while staying informed. And to add to the convenience factor, a wireless smartphone charging pad is also available, eliminating the need for messy charging cables.
What safety and virtual assistant features are available in the 2024 Nissan Rogue?
Nissan shows that safety remains a priority for the 2024 Rogue, coming standard with a suite of driver-assistance features to keep you confident on the road. This comprehensive package puts the Rogue on par with well-equipped competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Subaru Forester.
Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection is a standard feature, helping to prevent collisions with both vehicles and people in your path. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert add another layer of security, warning you of approaching vehicles when changing lanes or reversing out of parking spots.
For those seeking even more advanced driver assistance, the higher-end SL trim offers Nissan's ProPilot Assist system as an option. This semi-autonomous driving mode can help with tasks like lane centering and maintaining a safe distance from the car ahead in highway traffic. ProPilot Assist becomes standard equipment on the top-of-the-line Platinum trim.
It's important to note that warranty coverage for the 2024 Rogue is fairly standard, with no complimentary scheduled maintenance offered by Nissan. While rivals like Kia and Hyundai provide longer warranties and additional perks like free maintenance, Nissan sticks to a more traditional 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
