Nissan has unveiled the third teaser video of the new 2013 Altima, this time showing the back end of the new midsized sedan with the same flyover lighting that was used in the first two videos – with this latest spot showcasing the new taillights ahead of the 2012 New York Auto Show debut.
The gradual unveiling of the 2013 Nissan Altima began with an overhead shot showing the sleek lines, followed by a quick glimpse of the driver’s side front corner and now we have an equally brief look at the revised taillights of the new Altima sedan. Like the first two videos, this newest clip is very short at just 7 seconds long but unlike the overhead and front end shot – this clip uses the nearly the whole 7 seconds to show the 2013 Altima rather than using half of the video to show a Nissan logo.
The new back end of the 2013 Nissan Altima holds taillights that wrap around to the site of the car a bit with some sharp angles giving these lenses a sporty look. Similar to what we saw with the headlights, the taillights of the new Altima are more alike the current Maxima than the current Altima. These lenses are shorter, positioned on just the face of the trunk and in the rear quarter panel where the current Altima has massive taillight lenses that dominate both top rear corners of the car. This quick clip also shows the Altima badge on the corner of the trunk face, the Nissan crest and a chrome bar running along the license plate area. Finally, as the overhead lighting in the 3rd teaser video of the 2013 Altima fades out, we see the glow of what looks to be LED taillights. It also appears as though Nissan has gone away from the heavily chromed out taillights that graced the Altima lineup since the 3rd generation in 2002.

The Nissan Altima has looked the way that it does right now for quite some time, with more of a rounded, bubbly shape from front to back. Nissan found success in the larger Maxima sedan with the wide, sleek look and it looks as though the Japanese automaker will hope to find similar success with the new midsized Altima sedan with a sportier look than what Altima buyers have gotten in past years. The midsized sedan has long been one of the most heavily contested segments in America but over the past few years, the midsized sedan has grown to be the biggest car segment in the US. If Nissan aims to keep up with the likes of the Toyota Camry and Ford Focus – the 2013 Altima with a new, aggressive look could be a big step in the right direction.
The 2013 Nissan Altima will make its grand debut in April at the 2012 New York International Auto Show.
