When the 2015 Dodge Charger R/T arrives in showrooms later this year, owners will get to enjoy the same performance timers and engine parameter gauges that have been offered on the Charger SRT for the past few years – joining up with a new launch control system that will make for an even more engaging performance driving experience.
For the past few model years, the Dodge Charger SRT8 has included a unique option on the 8.4” infotainment screen simply labeled “SRT Performance” that offers a long list of measurements not offered on the non-SRT sedans. SRT owners could flip through a collection of several unique screens that displayed things like quarter mile timers, 60-0 braking timers, G-force meters (including peak numbers), a screen that shows the horsepower and torque output at any given second and a long list of vehicle parameters including oil temperature, oil pressure, intake air temperature, transmission temperature, coolant temperature and more. All of those gauges offer an SRT Charger driver a better look at what is going on under the hood while the timers, G-meters and engine power screen are just plain awesome features. While driving the 2013 Charger SRT, I loved having the engine output screen up for a hard launch – showing me the horsepower and torque numbers as they both climbed well over the 400 mark.
Starting with the 2015 Dodge Charger R/T Road & Track package, non-SRT owners can enjoy the same performance timers, G-meters and gauges that SRT owners have had for years now. Most importantly, 2015 Charger R/T owners will be able to measure the acceleration performance of their 4-door muscle car in the 8th mile and quarter mile, along with 0-60 times and 60-0 times. Charger R/T owners will also be able to see how much power their Hemi powered sedan is making at any time with the engine gauge…and I am confident that this is one new feature that owners will absolutely love. Since this is no longer an SRT application, the feature in the 2015 Charger is called the Dodge Performance Pages.
Also new for the 2015 Dodge Charger R/T is a launch control feature is also accessed through the Dodge Performance Pages. Drivers can turn the launch control system on and off through the Dodge Performance Page menu while also being able to set the preferred launch RPM. Some might think that having a launch control system on the 2015 Charger R/T might not be necessary, but this will likely allow new Charger owners who don’t have much performance driving experience to turn out the best times possible when drag racing. This is similar software to what is featured on the current SRT Viper so we would expect that an experienced driver will be able to turn out better times with the 2015 Charger R/T without launch control (which is also the case with the Viper), but for those drivers who don’t have the same level of experience on the drag strip, launch control should help make the most of the available Hemi power.
