Ford Motor Company has just announced the power ratings for the 2018 F250, F350 and F450 and with a combination of 450hp and 935lb-ft of torque – the newest Super Duty is the most powerful truck in the segment in terms of both horsepower and torque.
We learned this morning that the 2018 Ford F250, F350 and F450 Super Duty pickups with the 6.7L PowerStroke diesel V8 will offer 450 horsepower and 935lb-ft of torque. Those figures make the heavy duty Ford the most powerful consumer-grade trucks sold in America, beating the diesel engines from Chevrolet, GMC and Ram.
The 2018 Super Duty also leads in gooseneck towing (34,000 pounds), conventional towing (21,000lbs) and payload (7,360lbs), leading the Motor Company to dub their newest diesel-powered pickups the “King of Work”.
“Super Duty customers expect the best, and for 2018 we’re giving our customers even more power and torque from our 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel – delivering the most horsepower and torque available among all heavy-duty pickups,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Plus, our new F-450 pickup now includes a 4X2 model, enabling our customers to get more done with the segment’s best payload and towing.”
The 2018 Ford Super Duty Diesel
The 2017 Ford Super Duty pickups with the diesel engine offered 440 horsepower and 925lb-ft of torque. The 2018 F250, F350 and F450 will be powered by a similar 6.7L PowerStroke V8, but thanks to redesigned cylinder heads and optimized engine tuning, the new model year will bring 450 horsepower and 935lb-ft of torque.
For comparison, the 2018 Ram HD Cummins Turbo Diesel engine offers 385 horsepower and 930lb-ft of torque while the Chevrolet and GMC diesel engine offers 445 horsepower and 910lb-ft of torque. Those numbers were the same for 2017, so for the previous model year, GM led in segment horsepower and Ram led in torque. With these new numbers, Ford pulls ahead of GM by 5 horsepower and ahead of Ram by 5lb-ft of torque.
The advantage is slim, but a lead is a lead, and Ford leads in horsepower and torque among the heavy duty segment.
Finally, with the new Ford F450 4x2, the Motor Company reclaims the towing title, offering 34,000lbs of gooseneck towing capacity. As mentioned above, the Super Duty also leads in conventional towing at 21,000lbs and hauling capacity at 7,360lbs.
But there was not mention on
But there was not mention on which one moves the the load further down the road on a gallon of diesel. We all should be concerned about the planet and environment and the damage (if any) being done by these motor vehicles.
