The 2020 Dodge Charger and Challenger are both offered with the widebody package across multiple trim levels and after seeing some confusion over availability of certain configurations, we have put together a piece detailing the various layouts.
The biggest Dodge news thus far for the 2020 model year is the addition of the widebody package to the Charger, following the trend set back in 2018 with the introduction of the Challenger widebody package. On the sedan, the widebody package is optional on the R/T Scat Pack and standard on the Hellcat, but that is not the case for the Challenger. You can still get a Hellcat coupe, including the 797-horsepower Redeye version, with or without the widebody package, but I have seen quite a few discussions online where people thought that the Challenger Hellcat was also widebody-only. I have even seen people dispute that the Challenger Redeye has always been widebody-only, which isn’t true either, so today, here is a rundown of the widebody lineup for the 2020 Dodge Challenger and Charger.
2020 Charger Widebody
Since the widebody Charger is the hot, new item for 2020, we will start with that model. The new widebody package is an option for the Charger R/T Scat Pack with the 485-horsepower, 392-cubic inch Hemi V8. The “narrow width” body is still standard, but buyers can add the widebody package for $6,000.
As for the 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, the widebody package is standard, so there is no “narrow width” Hellcat sedan for 2020. Every Hellcat Charger built and sold for the 2020 model year will have the widebody design, including the 501 examples of the Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition.
Perhaps the people who are confused about the availability of the widebody package for the Challenger believe that the widebody package is standard because of the 2020 Charger Hellcat coming standard with the widebody package, but that is not the case. They read “Hellcat Charger is widebody-only” and they only retain “Hellcat is widebody only”, but the Challenger lineup is the same as it was for 2019, as is detailed below.
2020 Challenger Widebody
The 2020 Dodge Challenger can be fitted with the widebody package in R/T Scat Pack, Hellcat and Hellcat Redeye trim, but it is an option on every version of the muscular Mopar coupe. The “narrow width” body style is still standard on the Scat Pack, Hellcat and Redeye, but for $6,000, buyers can add the wider body panels, wheels and tires to each.
It seems that the most popular misconception online is that the Challenger Hellcat Redeye is widebody-only and in most cases, the people who think that do so because the Demon was widebody-only and the two do share a handful of high performance features. However, since the Redeye model was introduced, it could be ordered with the original design or the widebody package.
In closing, a quick review – the widebody package is only standard on the 2020 Charger SRT Hellcat while being an option on the Charger R/T Scat Pack, the Challenger R/T Scat Pack, the Challenger Hellcat and the Challenger Redeye. There is no “narrow width” Hellcat Charger for 2020, but the original body style is still standard on every other model with which the widebody package is offered as an option.
I would like to see that
I would like to see that Daytona 50th Anniversary version of the new Hellcat sedan. While installing the parts from 4WheelOnline on the Raptor, my buddy is talking about getting the a new muscle car this year. He's onto Mustang but the Daytona Anniversary model could change his mind.
