We have already seen the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the 2014 Dodge Viper TA go head to head out on the open road and today, we have a video of the two American supercars battling on the quarter mile – with each of the two coming away with bragging rights.
When the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 coupes began hitting the street late last year, the performance car world knew that it would only be a matter of time before we saw the most track capable Corvette of all time going head to head with the current Dodge Viper. These two are – and have been – the two key American supercars for years now, so it is hard to argue that these cars are fierce rivals. Not surprisingly, the first video showing the new Dodge Viper TA racing against the C7 Corvette Z06 surfaced in early December and in that clip, the Viper beat the Vette soundly over and over as the two made a series of high speed highway runs.
After round 1, it was Viper 1 - Corvette 0, but a new video showing the most track capable Corvette ever racing on the quarter mile drag strip against a Viper TA and this time, both cars score a point.
Quarter Mile Tale of the Tape
For those who aren’t sure of the specs on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 coupe and the 2014 Dodge Viper TA, a quick rundown. The 2015 Corvette Z06 packs a supercharged LT4 engine that delivers 650 horsepower and 650lb-ft of torque while the 2014 Viper TA relies on a naturally aspirated V10 gives the big snake 640 horsepower and 600lb-ft of torque. The Corvette has a slight advantage in horsepower and a big advantage in torque, but the new Z06 is also the heaviest Corvette ever. The Viper Time Attack weighs 3,348 pounds, giving it an advantage over the Z06 at 3,524lbs of almost 200lbs.
Even with this weight advantage, it was a surprise when we saw the highway run video showing the Viper winning by a pretty considerable margin, but the crazy decision by GM to have the Corvette’s LT4 engine pull power when hot may have played the biggest part in that series of high speed runs. This time, the results are less surprising, as the Corvette used the bigger power to lay down a quicker quarter mile run – although the Viper still won the drag race.
Clash of the Titans – Round 2
This video showing the 2014 Dodge Viper TA racing against a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 coupe is short and sweet. Sadly, we don’t get to see the burnout, but the video gets right along to the two American supercars lining up. When the lights come down, the Viper pulls the better reaction time and quickly gets out ahead of the Vette. The manually shifted Z06 gets away from the line a little late and we can see that the C7 is reeling in the Mopar supercar, but the Z06 Corvette runs out of space and the Viper takes the win in the left lane. That gives the Viper another point in the ongoing battle, but it should be noted that the Corvette ran a significantly better elapsed time and a bit better trap speed.
The Viper pulled the better reaction time and in doing so, the driver was able to win with a quarter mile time of 12.17 and a trap speed of 122.97 miles per hour. However, the Corvette Z06 ran a considerably quicker elapsed time of 11.75 at 124.35 miles per hour. While the Viper gets the win in this race, the Corvette deserves credit for turning the far better quarter mile time. Really, this was a driver’s race and the Viper driver won the race.
As a final point, the video details claim that this Corvette’s time makes it the quickest stock tire, manual transmission 2015 Z06 thus far and while it lost the race – it was quicker and faster.
This proves what I have known
This proves what I have known all along, the viper TA isn't really faster than the 2015 Z06.it is all about the driver.
First of all. The viper has
First of all. The viper has been shown in several videos and tests running low 11's and even high 10's. At over 127mph. Second of all. Your an idiot if you say that the Vette was pulling hard on the viper when it 1mph faster trap. This was obviously not what the viper capable of. You corvette people need to just quit crying and just admit it's not as fast as the viper.
Chevy looks like a bad
