The first official teaser image of the 2014 Toyota Corolla was posted on the company’s official Facebook page earlier today and while this shot doesn’t show much – it does appear as though the back end of the next generation Corolla could closely resemble the Toyota Furia Concept from the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
When The Toyota Corolla Furia Concept debuted back in January at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit’s Cobo Hall, the Japanese automaker proclaimed that the Furia offered an early look at the expected styling cues of the next generation 2014 Toyota Corolla. This first teaser image shows that their intent was genuine as what little we can see in this first shot of the 2014 Corolla bears a striking resemblance to the Furia Concept with some minor changes that we fully expected after seeing the Furia.
As you can see in the image above on the right, the first official 2014 Toyota Corolla teaser shows an upward angle shot of the passenger side taillight and surprisingly, it appears to be very similar in the basic design to that seen on the Furia. The main difference is that the 2014 Corolla taillight does not have the stunning, high tech LED design from the Furia Concept (as shown below) but that is one of the features that we expected would not make it through to production due to their higher cost. This is a cryin’ shame because those dark grey LED taillights from the concept car looked fantastic with the bevy of carbon fiber features – many of which also will not make it to production. Luckily, the angular shape of the Furia taillight appears to have been preserved and just those aggressive taillights could go a long way in helping the next generation Corolla stand out in the super packed C segment sedan crowd.
In addition to the taillight of the 2014 Toyota Corolla, this low angle shot gives us a brief glimpse of the trunk face that appears to be less pronounced than the Furia Concept. The body line that flows down off of the taillight and creates the upper edge of the rear “bumper” looks as though it is less dramatic, leveling out and creating a much higher rear belt line than what we saw on the Furia Concept. It also looks as though the rear “brow” created by the inner tip of the taillights may be a bit more pronounced than what we saw on the concept but that could simply be a result of the shadows in this first teaser image. Finally, we can also see a low profile rear spoiler that also appears to be similar to what was featured on the Corolla Furia Concept in Detroit.
Unfortunately, this tightly cropped rear end shot of the 2014 Toyota Corolla S only shows so much but with the formal debut of the next generation Corolla slated for early June – it shouldn’t be long before we see more official teaser images (or leaked production photos) of the new C segment sedan.
