The images on the right are the first of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition – a special limited edition supercar designed to help the Italian automaker continue its 50th anniversary celebration that kicked off with the debut of the Lamborghini Veneno last month.
Automobili Lamborghini began building high performance cars in 1964 and to help continue the celebration of the Italian automaker’s 50th anniversary – the company has introduced the new LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition package for the range topping Aventador. This special limited edition package features the same 6.5L V12 as the original Aventador but thanks to a unique engine calibration, the 50 Anniversario Edition offers 720 metric horsepower (710 horsepower for Americans) with that power being channeled to all four wheels via a lighting fast automated manual transmission. This extra power allows the Aventador LP720-4 to rip from a stop to 62 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds en route to a top speed of 217 miles per hour (350 km/h).
While the extra horsepower is a nice bonus in helping the Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition offer improved acceleration over the standard Aventador LP700-4, the exterior of this limited edition package is where the 50 Anniversario Edition really shines. First, the front fascia has been redesigned with larger front air intakes and a lower splitter that extends further out away from the body for improved aerodynamics at high speed. I think that we would all agree that this new front fascia makes the Aventador look even more awesome – and I didn’t think that was possible. This new front end also features carbon fiber flaps that run from the lower portion of the fascia up to the middle area for more controlled air flow around the front end of this sleek supercar.
Out back, the Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition has an entirely redesigned lower fascia that includes a significantly extended diffuser that is both longer and wider than the standard Aventador for improved rear exit management. Above this super aggressive rear diffuser is a new mesh venting area that runs across the width of the LP720-4, helping to allow for better engine bay cooling. According to Lamborghini, the changes made to the Anniversario Edition improve handling stability at “extreme speeds” without negatively impacting the coefficient of drag with a design that is a whopping 50% more efficient than the standard Aventador. It is pretty amazing that the company was able to make such a dramatic difference with these new fascias compared to the already-aerodynamic Aventador LP700-4.
After the new front and rear fascias were added, the Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition was coated in a two tone paint scheme that utilitzes about a super reflective Giallo Maggio (May Yellow) paint on the upper portions of the car while the lower areas of the car all around are finished in matte black. The company chose this yellow paint because since the Miura was introduced back in 1964, more Lamborghinis have been purchased in yellow than in any other color. This particular yellow is only available on the 50 Anniversario Edition and thanks to the addition of “highly reflective particles” in the paint, Lamborghini promises that this paint will truly glisten in the sun. A set of gloss black wheels and special 50th Anniversary badges finish off the exterior design of the LP720-4. It should be noted that buyers can have their 50 Anniversario Edition Aventador painted in any available color through the Ad Personam program but it would seem crazy to me to NOT get the unique Giallo Maggio paint.
Finally, the interior of the Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 is wrapped in semi-aniline leather, which was specifically developed for the 50th anniversary package. Buyers can pick between a black interior layout or a yellow pattern named Giallo Quercus that will match the exterior paint.
The pricing has not yet been announced for the Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition but the company has stated that just 100 units of this anniversary edition supercar will be available worldwide with each car having a unique serial number.
