The folks at Hennessey Performance made big news when they introduced their 1,000+ horsepower “Exorcist” package for the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, but the Texas tuner is making news again by showing off a convertible version of their most powerful Camaro package on the dyno.
Hennessey Performance is well known for their high performance packages and lately, their most talked-about offering has been their Exorcist package for the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. When first introduced, Hennessey stated that it would make 1,000 horsepower and 966lb-ft of torque at the crankshaft, but company dyno videos proved that it actually makes far more than that. Click here for a closer look at our initial report on the 1,000hp Hennessey Camaro ZL1.
In the dyno video, one of the Hennessey Exorcist Camaro ZL1 coupes laid down 959 horsepower and 756lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. Assuming a 15% drivetrain loss ratio, those wheel power ratings show that the Hennessey Camaro is making far more than 1,000hp – more like 1,125hp. In any case, Hennessey claims that when the Camaro ZL1 Exorcist package is equipped with sticky tires and 10-speed automatic transmission, it will dash from a stop to 60 miles per hour in less than 3 seconds while running through the quarter mile in less than 10 seconds.
Well, do you know what is more fun than a Camaro ZL1 that will hit 60 in less than 3 seconds en route to a 9-second quarter mile? A Camaro ZL1 that will do those things with the top down.
The Hennessey Exorcist Camaro ZL1 Convertible
Right now, the only details that we have on the existence of a Hennessey Exorcist Camaro ZL1 Convertible is the video below, which clearly shows a black Camaro ZL1 droptop with the decals and supercharger of the 1,000+ horsepower package. We get to watch a dyno run which begins with the driver putting the top down and in the enhanced image above, we get a little better look at the car from the video.
We don’t get any numbers from this run, but having seen previous dyno videos of the Hennessey Exorcist Camaro ZL1, we can expect somewhere in the area of 950hp and 750lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels – provided that all of the details of the package are the same for the convertible as they are for the coupe. This would include a larger supercharger, a larger intercooler system, ported factory LT4 cylinder heads, a new camshaft, long tube headers and a custom air intake system – all tuned to work together to make the most power possible.
The video ends with the promise of track testing coming soon, at which point we will hopefully get the full details on the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible with the Hennessey Exorcist package.
