Over the past few months we have been privy to great many spyshots of the upcoming sporty compact from Hyundai and yesterday, the up-and-coming Korean automaker issued a new teaser video; making official the debut date and the official name of the 2011 Hyundai Veloster.
Like so many other new 2011 models from around the world, the new Hyundai Veloster will make its grand debut at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit’s Cobo Center. Hyundai has even made up an introduction page with a running countdown until the Detroit Auto Show debut and you can check out that site by clicking here. Right now, the counter suggests that the Veloster will make its debut on January 10th (the opening day for the media) around 3pm EST.
Hyundai has been stingy with any official specs for the 2011 Veloster but the teaser video reveals that the new compact will be powered by a direct-injected engine mated to a dual-clutch (automatic) gearbox and that this layout will yield 40mpg. This tells us that the 2011 Veloster will not share a drivetrain layout with the current Genesis Coupe, as both of the engines from the Genesis use a multi-port fuel injection setup. Hyundai has done a nice job with the peppy turbo-4 in the base model Genesis Coupe and with claims of 40mpg, perhaps the direct injection system will be mated to a bit of forced induction.
