Jaguar has announced that they will use the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show as the backdrop to unveil what the automaker is calling the Jaguar C-X16 Production Concept on September 13th, 2011.
Little information came as a part of Jaguar’s announcement yesterday but you can see from the sketch on the right that the C-X16 Production Concept carries over much of the styling of the current brand lineup. Compared to the current grand touring supercars built by Jaguar, the vehicle being referred to as the “precursor to future Jaguar sports cars” looks to be shorter – most noticeably in the length of the hood and roofline. Also, the C-X16 Concept has much more of a fastback design with the shortened greenhouse flowing all the way to the top of the tail but overall, you can definitely see the current Jaguar design theme echoed into this new sports car.
Ian Callum, Design Director for Jaguar offered this comment about the upcoming new model:
"Great Jaguar cars have always been beautiful, innovative and have looked firmly to the future. The finished C-X16 concept has the potential to do these things while retaining the ability to surprise, excite and invigorate."
It is expected that the production form of the Jaguar C-X16 Concept (or whatever it is called when it reaches production) will be slightly less expensive than the current XK lineup along with being slightly smaller – but we can expect this new model to pack all of the punch of the rest of the lineup. In short, the Jaguar C-X16 Production Concept should serve as a “baby Jag” but unlike previous low-buck Jaguar models of the past, we should be able to expect this one to offer the high performance capabilities that we have come to love from the British coachbuilder.
Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director of Jaguar had this to say about the new concept:
"Jaguar has set in place bold, ambitious plans for the future. This production concept demonstrates the depth of design and engineering ability we have within Jaguar to make these plans come to life. I look forward to sharing this latest, exciting step at the Frankfurt Motor Show."
The Jaguar C-X16 Production Concept is set to debut on September 13th at the Frankfurt Motor Show so in just shy of a month, we should have a good look at the future of the Jaguar lineup.
