Even though the Lamborghini Gallardo is due to race off into the sunset in the very near future, the Italian supercar builder has continued to introduce new, exciting packages for the “entry level” Lambo with the newest example being the stunning Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse shown here.
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse is closely based on the race-only Gallardo Super Trofeo but unlike that purpose built racer that is featured in the world’s fastest one-make racing series, the Squadra Corse (which translates to Race Team in Italian) is a fully street legal supercar. The Squadra Corse Gallardo is named in honor of the new department within Automobili Lamborghini which will oversee all company motorsport activities including the GT3 program and the aforementioned Blancpain Super Trofeo championship. On the outside, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse is different from the standard Gallardo thanks to the addition of a massive carbon fiber rear wing that is borrowed from the Super Trofeo race cars and during the most grueling conditions, this rear wing offers three times as much downforce than the “little” rear wing found on the Gallardo LP560-4 for improved stability during high speed maneuvers. The Squadra Corse also features a similar carbon fiber rear engine cover with a quick release feature to the one found on the Gallardo race cars. Those carbon fiber goodies with a handful of other lightweight items inside including lightweight racing seats and a minimalist interior cut the weight down a great deal – amount to a dry weight of just 2,954 pounds. This is 154 pounds less than the Gallardo LP560-4 and with the few extra ponies of the LP570-4 drivetrain, the Squadra Corse boasts a power to weight ratio of 5.18 pounds per horsepower. This figure allows the Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse to rip from a stop to 62 miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds and getting to 125 takes only 10.4 seconds as the car heads towards a top speed of 199 miles per hour.
