When General Motors announced that they would only build 1,000 examples of the beautiful 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Collector’s Edition, it was clear that they would be hard to get, but according to a new report, only 850 of those will be sold in the United States – making them even harder to acquire.
The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport recently laid down an awesome lap time at the Car & Driver Lightning Lap trials, proving that it is one of the most track capable street cars in the US market. With a price starting at $66,445 for the coupe, the C7 Grand Sport will go toe-to-toe with far more expensive supercars with a good chance of winning and because of that, I expect that this new performance package will prove to be very popular with prospective buyers.
In addition to the regular Grand Sport, Chevrolet will also build 1,000 examples of this high performance Corvette with the Collector’s Edition package. This striking appearance package creates what I believe is the best looking C7 Corvette thus far and according to the folks at Corvette Blogger, this black and blue package is going to be even more limited than the originally announced 1,000 units.
In reality, it appears as though just 850 examples of the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport Collector’s Edition will be sold to US buyers, while the other 150 will be shipped out to other markets. This will make the Collector’s Edition with the beautiful blue interior even harder to get while likely also increasing the likelihood of dealership markups.
2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Collector’s Edition
The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Collector’s Edition is based on the 3LT trimline, so it comes with all of the premium bells and buzzers along with the standard high performance features of the Grand Sport package. The Collector’s Edition adds the unique Watkins Glen Gray Metallic exterior paint with Tension Blue hash-mark graphics, satin black stripes, black wheels and an exclusive Tension Blue full leather and suede-wrapped interior.
The Grand Sport 3LT Corvette has an MSRP of $75,195, the Collector’s Edition package adds $4,995 and destination adds $995 for a total MSRP of $81,185. This package is also available on the 2017 Corvette Convertible Grand Sport, with an MSRP of $85,185.
That is a big chunk of change, but when you consider the level of interior appointment, the high performance capabilities of the new Grand Sport package and the gorgeous design of the Collector’s Edition, I expect that this will be a highly sought after package.
That level of high demand and low production numbers will almost certainly lead to a log jam of orders when the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport Collector’s Edition hits the market later this year. That early rush will almost certainly lead to dealership markups on the Collector’s Edition and if demand remains high through the distribution of those 850 units – it might be hard to get one without a markup.
