Earlier this month, we learned that when Porsche returns to the Detroit Auto Show in January 2011, they will be bringing out a “spectacular” new supercar and today the automaker announced that they will broadcast the unveiling of that new model on their website.
We do not have a clear idea as to what Porsche will be debuting on January 10th, 2011 at Detroit’s Cobo Hall but rumors suggest that it will be something based on the 918 Spyder that made its debut earlier this year. The Porsche 918 is an ultra high performance hybrid, using a pair of electric engines mated to a 500 horsepower V8 to allow the car to rip from 0-62mph in around 3.2 seconds while also yielding 78 miles per gallon. While there will be plenty of coverage of the January 10th opening media day at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, Porsche will present a rare chance for enthusiasts around the world to watch the company’s press conference at Porsche.com/Detroit.
The only bad news for Porsche enthusiasts who want to watch the unveiling of the new product (or products) is that Porsche is the very first automaker to take the stage on Monday morning, meaning that you will have to be awake and logged into the Porsche website at 6:30am EST. We would expect Porsche to show the press conference more than once for those who cannot be online watching the reveal(s) live but with the lead-off position, the debut of the new Porsche supercar will be first big, official news from the 2011 Detroit Auto Show.
TorqueNews.com will be at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show bringing you a heavy-duty look at the show so bookmark the site and don’t miss a single second from around the auto industry.
